Frances Breihan Wise, 90, of Las Vegas, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014. She was born in Abilene, Texas, Dec. 20, 1923, the daughter of Albert W. and Frances Breihan (nee Urban). She attended Texas State College for Women, where she earned an associate degree in the musical arts. In 1944, Frances enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where she served for two years, ultimately receiving her honorable discharge while stationed at U.S. Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. Following this service, she served as a Department of the Army Civilian in Headquarters, U.S. Eighth Army, Yokohama, Japan. In 1957, she married Lieutenant Colonel (then Major) Richard A. Wise, and accompanied him on a variety of military assignments, ending with his retirement from active duty in 1964. Following 25 years of civilian life in California, the couple moved to Las Vegas and took up residence in Sun City Summerlin, where Frances became a founding member of the Sun City Summerlin Computer Club. She served two terms as president of the club, and looked upon her experiences there as one of the most rewarding periods of her life. As a sufferer of advanced macular degeneration, she was an ardent and active supporter of aid for the visually impaired. At the time of her passing she was a resident of the Las Ventanas retirement community in Las Vegas. She is survived by her husband, Richard; and by a brother, Albert W. Breihan Jr. of San Diego. Her ashes will be scattered at sea in the southern California waters, where she enjoyed many years of sailing with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and with the California Yacht Club.
