Herman Porter

September 20, 1947 - April 24, 2026

Herman Porter, was born on September 20, 1947, in Lake Providence, Louisiana to the late Joe and Gladys Porter of St. Joseph, Louisiana.

Herman and Carolyn joined in holy matrimony on September 26, 1987, they loved each other dearly, until God called him home.

Herman retired at the age of 62 after working in the culinary industry. He used his spiritual gift of kindness and wisdom to help others while serving as Head Deacon at the Church of The Lord Jesus.

Herman enjoyed serving in the church and spending time with loved ones, it was his most treasured memories. His kindness, generosity, and compassion will live on in his memory.

Herman departed this life on Friday, April 24, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Gladys Porter, one son, 11 brothers and one sister.

Herman leaves to celebrate the life he lived, his beloved wife; Carolyn Porter, five children; Herman Porter Jr, and Lasonja Porter both of California, Anthony Green, Barry Green, and Latonya Glover of Las Vegas, Nevada, 13 grandchildren; Christopher Jones, Tyree Porter, Andrea Porter, Tierra Porter, Tianta Porter, Christine Jones, Shaharre Porter, Paulette Porter, Shanice Porter, Cairo Jones, Teddy Porter, Cyree Jones, and his blended grandchild Brandon Green, 18 great grandchildren, sister; Marie Porter-Payne, and brother; William Alexander Porter both of Las Vegas, Nevada, a host of nieces and nephews, several godchildren, Belinda and Earl Davis, and Alba Spurlock whom he shared a special relationship, many friends, and his beloved church family.

Herman’s faith and love for his community were a constant source of strength throughout his life. He will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts.

Visitation will take place at Palm Downtown Mortuary & Cemetery, 1325 N. Main St., Las Vegas, NV, 89106, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. On Friday, May 15, 2026, at 12:00 pm, there will be a memorial service at the Church of The Lord Jesus, which is located at 1260 W. Bartlett Ave., Las Vegas, NV, 89106. The interment will be followed by a repast at the same location.
