
JAMES LYLE TREECE, 88 Sun City ~ James Lyle Treece, formerly of Grand Junction, CO and Denver, CO passed away on September 7th, 2013. Born in Grand Junction on February 6th 1925, he was the son of Lee Oren Treece and Ruth Ida Smith. Jim graduated as the Valedictorian of the Grand Junction High School class of 1943. At GJHS he was the Captain of the football, track and basketball teams in addition to holding the school editor position. Academically, Jim went on to attend Colorado State, University, Mesa State, the United States Naval Academy and the University of Colorado where he received his Juris Doctorate. Additionally, he went on to attend Hofstra University and Colorado College for post-graduate studies. Jim started out as an Insurance adjuster prior to joining the Denver law firm of Yegge, Hall and Evans, which later became Yegge, Hall, Treece and Evans. From 1969 – 1977 he was appointed as the United States Attorney for the state of Colorado. During this time, he was also the Municipal judge for Greenwood Village, CO. Upon completion of back-to-back Presidential appointments as U.S. Attorney, he started his own law firm in Littleton, Colorado where he practiced law until his retirement. As recognition for his outstanding performance as an attorney he was selected into the U.S. Politics and Who’s Who in the World. He moved to Sun City, AZ in 1991. While in Sun City, he volunteered for many organizations. He spent a great deal of his personal time to record books for the blind; serve as a board member for the AZ Foster Care Review Board; volunteering legal services at no cost; serving on the Sun City board ensuring citizens and their needs were a priority; and as an extremely active member of his church, All Saints of the Desert. He not only provided many hours of selfless service as a member helping with whatever the church needed but also as an extremely loyal choir member for over twenty years. Jim was a strong believer in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and would no doubt want to be remembered as such. Jim was married to the former Julie Rome from 1948 to 1984. Jim had five children, James Van (deceased); Karen Gail, Teryl Amy, Jamilyn Jill and Carol Taryn. A memorial service will be held on November 2, 2013, 3:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Denver.
