Janet Nubel, 58, of Las Vegas, passed away on Tuesday, January 26th 2016. She was born on February 16th, 1957. Janet graduated from Grant High School in San Fernando Valley in 1974. And continued on to get her Bachelors in Music and Business Administration. Until she moved to Las Vegas in 1990, she had lived in Sherman Oaks, California. She cared deeply for classical music, and grew up with it, saying in her own words, “Most parents have children, mine had a string trio. My two brothers played violin and viola, and I was the cellist.” And although professional cellist was not a title she would hold, she carried her love for music throughout her life. While working as a cashier at an amusement park in Southern California she was given the nickname “Ms. Rule Breaker” because she “took books into the booth so that [she] could read between customers.” This love for reading and hyper productivity was with her always, as she would never be found without a book on hand and without a task to be done. These tasks were never for her, but only for those who needed her. Selfless is the best the representation our language can offer about Janet in this regard. It would be impossible to capture Janet in mere words, and it would be foolhardy to try. What was most evident in Janet was her capacity for love, which was without limitation. It moved effortlessly and endlessly through all who came in contact with her, much like the water she so longed to live beside. You could feel it the moment she pierced you with her eyes, which contained all of the calm and all of the meaning that can be possessed in this world, and her whimsical demeanor, as if she hadn’t a care in the world but still, everything that you were experiencing mattered the most to her. This effervescent love was experienced most by her family, for whom she was more than a mother, sister, and daughter, but a being of such ethereal angelicacy as to defy possible definitions by the constraints of language. And, in the true fashion of Janet, blood was no meaning when it came to family, as she touched every one of Thomas’s siblings, Walter (Jodi), Michael (Michelle), Carol Selawski (David), Mary, and Michele, becoming a sister and best friend. Whatever is posted in this obituary is pale testament to who Janet was as a person, and how much she meant to her family. It was and will always be a mutual love beyond measure. She will be missed by more people than we can fathom, more deeply than we can comprehend, and longer than the constraints of time will allow. She is preceded in death by her father, Raymond Neubauer. Janet is survived by her husband, Thomas (Tom); her four children Jessica, Daniel, Elizabeth, Laura; and her godson Michael as well as her mother, Eva Neubauer; and her brothers, Paul Neubauer (Kerry) and David Neubauer (Bonnie). A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 31st from 5:00 to 7:00PM at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89146. Additionally, a Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 1st at 1:00PM at St. Joseph Husband of Mary on 7260 W. Sahara.
