Born December 14, 1934, in Holyoke, Colorado, Jeanne was the daughter of Carl Lindsay and Margaret L. Holmes. In her early years, she was raised by her grandparents, Rilla and Jesse Holmes, and was introduced to the gospel of Jesus Christ as a child. She began her working life as a switchboard operator with Pacific Bell Telephone Company in Bakersfield, California. Later, as her interest in fitness grew, she worked at Golden Venus Health Club, George Eiferman’s Gym, and Camelot Health Club in Las Vegas.
She married John McCord on November 11, 1959. Together they welcomed two sons, John and Kevin. Their 15-year marriage ended in divorce.
Jeanne worked at the MGM Hotel for 10 years as a cigarette girl. She later returned to the fitness industry and then moved into retail, working at JCPenney. She was known as a true people person, with an independent spirit and strong financial discipline.
On July 9, 1980, Jeanne married Joe Cissell in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they built a life in Las Vegas, spent four years in Kyle, Texas, and returned to Las Vegas in 2011.
Jeanne found joy in caring for injured birds and kept an aviary inside a couple of her homes. She also cherished the many poodles she owned throughout her life. In 1979, she was invited to a new church by her friend, Linda Cocci, and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed studying the Bible and singing in the church choir, especially in The Living Christmas Tree.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Cissell; her sons, John McCord (Angela) and Kevin McCord (Donna), both of Las Vegas, Nevada; her poodle, Colette; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday, April 17, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N Main St., Las Vegas, NV.
