Jeffrey was born in Laramie, Wyoming on December 18, 1961, but spent most of his youth growing up in Ogden, Utah. He graduated in 1980 from Ben Lomond High School, where he participated in the high school’s band, and was a “A” student and member of the National Honor Society. Jeff played the flute and other woodwind instruments, percussion, and was self-taught on the guitar. After high school Jeffrey went to college on an Air Force ROTC scholarship at Colorado State University. Jeff had a lot of fun that first year of college, forcing him to leave CSU and his scholarship. After trying different majors, at other schools, Jeff enlisted in the US Army where he spent most of his enlistment in the 77th Army Band at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was proud of his Army service and of being a part of this unit, where he made many lifelong friends that he kept in touch with up until his passing.
Following his Army service, he rededicated himself to completing his education and returned to college, graduating from Utah State University in 1988. After college he pursued a career in IT which led him to Government Service with the IRS in Ogden, Utah, but eventually transferring to the IRS facility in Las Vegas 28 years ago where he worked until he retired in 2023.
Jeffrey had many passions. He was an audiophile who loved all music, but in particular classical, rock, and religious music. Jeff was an active member of the Aliante Community Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir, attended Sunday School and Bible Study, and served in many other capacities. Jeff was a Patriot and a Christian that supported many religious and conservative causes and charities though his donations. He was passionate about fitness and was always athletic and fit. He was a member of several Las Vegas gyms and worked out twice a day as often as he could. He loved neighbors, his car; driving only the 3rd car he ever owned. Jeff loved all animals, especially cats. He would attend cat shows with his dear friend Cindy Ahern, who’s cat “Ling” was his favorite over the years.
Jeffrey will be deeply missed. He was revered by his neighbors and fellow gym members. He shared messages of hope with many other cancer patients and was a bright light in his community. He is survived by his brothers, Greg (Jenny) and Mark (Paula); his nieces and nephews, Ashley, Madison, Samuel, and Samantha; as well as his friend, Cindy and her daughters, and grandchildren. Jeffrey will be laid to rest in Black Hills National Cemetery near his parents, in the Black Hills of South Dakota with Military Honors, at a date yet to be determined. He will be forever loved and remembered. Rather than flowers, the family requests that donations be made to PanCAN – the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in Jeff’s honor.
At Jeff's request, there will not be a local service in the Las Vegas area. He will be interred in the columbarium at the Black Hills National Cemetery, in Sturgis South Dakota, 20901 Pleasant Valley Dr. Sturgis, SD 57785 at 12:30 p.m. (MST) on November 17, 2025.
