It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Jessie Louise Harris. Jessie passed away peacefully in the late evening hours of October 25, 2011 with her beloved only son, Davron Harris, at her bedside. Jessie was born August 11, 1950 in Breckenridge, Texas to the proud parents of Ann and Buster Harris. Jessie was baptized into Christianity at Williamson Chapel CME in Breckenridge, Texas where she was active in her church until leaving Texas. A teacher most of her life, Jessie graduated from East Texas State University with a degree in education. Before embarking upon a career in elementary education, she had specialized in teaching those children with learning disabilities. Jessie migrated to Las Vegas in the 80s to make it her home where she continued her career in education. Upon arriving in Las Vegas, Jessie joined First AME church where she enjoyed worshipping with family and friends. Later in her life, Jessie succumbed to the ravishes of rheumatoid arthritis and was confined to a wheelchair. Most in her situation would have given up their zest for life. Not Jessie. Jessie only changed her focus to help others become aware of the plight of those less fortunate than her. Jessie became involved in a variety of organizations whose goal was to bring focus to the disabled. Jessie was well known throughout the state of Nevada, having spoke before the Nevada legislature about causes dear to her. In addition, Jessie was an active member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, and will be missed by her beloved sisters both near and far. Jessie is survived by her only son, Davron Harris; sisters Sonya Ann Sewall and Mary Willie Gamble; , a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends all over the United States.
Arrangements under the direction of Palm South Jones Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
