Joan Butler was born in Mansfield, Louisiana to the loving parents of Dixie Copeland and Sarah V. Copeland who both preceded her in death. On March 23, 1938 the world was blessed by her birth. She was one of three children. One brother Richard Copeland who preceded her in death and one sister Emma K. Young who preceded her in death as well.
Joan was raised in a loving Christian home. She received and confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age. She and her family attended St. John Baptist Church in Desoto Parish, Mansfield, Louisiana. She and her family later moved to Berkeley, California. Where her and the family joined McGee Avenue Baptist Church. Later she moved her membership to Chapel Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Joan worked for the State of California for thirty-four years. On April 07, 1972 she met and married the love of her life Milton R. Butler. She was a loving and devoted wife for over forty-eight years, together they raised their family. To this union was five sons: three sons preceded her in death Thomas R. Butler, Darrell K. Butler, and Eric A. Butler. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother, who loved her family.
Joan was an entrepreneur in her on rights! She and her loving husband Dr. Milton R. Butler founded and established Deliverance Christian Church. And in 1986 she and her husband founded and established Little Lamb Christian Child Care Center in Pasadena, California. She served in many auxiliary positions in the church and in the child care facility, as Choir President, Administrator, Secretary, Financial Department, Women Fellowship, Pastoral Aide, and she assisted in other capacities.
Joan and husband semi-retired in September of 2010 and relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada where they united with Lighthouse Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Carol A. Green. She served on the Pastoral Aide, Mothers Board, and assisted in other capacities in the church.
Joan leaves to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted husband of forty-eight years Dr. Milton R. Butler; two sons Milton R. Butler Jr. of Eagle Rock, California, and Rodney J. Butler of Oak Park, Michigan; one aunt Martha Woods (Marsha and Holly) of North Carolina; four sister-n-laws: Norma E. Payne (Lowndes), Judy A. Butler, Mildred G. Marshall (Charles), all of Las Vegas, Nevada, Sharon L McKinney (Romaine) of Detroit Michigan; one brother-n-law William T. Butler (Daydawn) of White Lake, Michigan; eleven grand-children, eight great grand-children, and a host of other relatives and friends.
