Joan leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren: James Stinar, Megan (Stinar) Faville, Peter Stinar, Daniel Stinar, Justin Stinar, Melissa (Stinar) Dana, Stephanie Dersch, Fallon (Dersch) Zornes, Jeffrey Stinar, Jared Blanchette, Jillian (Blanchette) Muller, and Jorin (Stinar) Shanahan; as well as her cherished great-grandsons, Lochlann Shanahan and Jacob Dana.
Born and raised in St. Paul, MN, Joan attended high school there and worked at Sneiders Drug Store, where she met the love of her life, John. After graduating, she attended business school for two years and went on to work for the Great Northern Railroad. Joan and John were married in 1955. In 1958, following a brief move to California, they settled in Las Vegas, where they raised their six children and built a life rooted in family, faith, and community.
Joan was deeply involved with her church and in her children’s education and school activities at St. Christopher’s, St. Viator’s, and Bishop Gorman High School. She worked at the Flamingo Hotel for nearly 30 years before retiring.
She found joy in flowers, music, dancing, walking, sewing, and reading, but her greatest happiness came from doting on her grandchildren. Joan was known for her warmth and kindness, always quick with a smile that truly reached her eyes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan’s memory to City of Hope or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Las Vegas, Nevada.
