Jocelyn Ogburn Lamb was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 19, 1984 to Tyrone Lamb and Angela Ogburn and was raised by her grandparents, Ronald and Patricia Lamb. At an early age, Jocelyn showed an amazing aptitude for language and music. She was a conversant in two languages, English and Spanish, and an excellent bass guitar player. In addition to a home education, she was enrolled in the local Head Start Early Childhood Education program. At Head Start, her teachers observed how well she excelled at her school work, and how she socialized and adapted into the classroom environment almost immediately. Of course, her grandmother was closely involved in her school years. She went on to a specialized primary and high school where she continued to excel. Her school awards included cum laude awards in computer web design and video production. She was also awarded the magna cum laude Ida B. Wells journalism award. Jocelyn wrote untiringly in her daily journals and was creating several works of fiction. Though never formally published, her poems and other works were shared with and praised by many. Jocelyn was diagnosed in her early teens with the life-threatening disease, Lupus. In spite of this, she continued to excel academically during her college years, maintaining Dean’s List status each term. After her diagnosis, she showed strength and character, never letting it stop her from pursuing her dreams. Jocelyn was a devoted choir member of Concord Baptist Church in Brooklyn. After moving to Las Vegas, Nevada, Jocelyn found another love – the education of young children. Her education and life experiences qualified her to become an early childhood teacher. She showed her abilities and intuitive talent for communicating with young students and she became one of the best teachers in the school. Again, her illness flared and Jocelyn was forced to take a leave of absence. Her struggle with the disease continued, and after many bouts, Jocelyn fought her last battle and succumbed to her illness on May 25, 2015.
