

John P. Atanasio, loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, 92, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born to Salvatore and Vincenza, on February 10, 1925, in Staten Island, New York, and raised in the Bronx. John was the oldest of 4 children; brothers Sal and Domenick and sister Santa. He was Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Army in World war II, after being stationed in the Philippines, where he had engaged in combat. For nearly 50 years, he was an employee of Unity Printing Co., working as a Commercial Printer and Shop Foreman. John was married to Amelia (deceased) and had three sons: Alfred (Sue), Michael (deceased), and Lloyd (Nicole). Upon his retirement, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and met and married his present wife of 24 years, Mae. Even in his last days of dementia, he would refer to her as his beautiful wife. John was President of their HOA in 1994; a former member of the Italian American Club and Las Vegas Gun Club. He also worked many hours as a Hospital Volunteer. He loved to play poker and to watch his New York Yankees baseball games on TV. He adored his babies and young people and had a big, generous heart. John was indeed a family man and dwelled on loving his family: Grandchildren - Maria, Michele, Sarah, Mathew Great-Grandchildren - Jack, Max Step Children - Danny (Rosa), Donna (Tony), Maria Step Grandchildren - Anthony Michael (Jeanine), Nichols, Anthony, Laura, Vanessa “Poppy John” is with God now and may he rest in peace. We all love you and will miss you. Memorial Service will be at 11:20 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Southern Nevada Veterans Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr, Boulder City, Nevada 89005.
