

John (Jack) W. Galvin, 91 of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2024. He was born on April 23, 1933 in New York City, New York. John grew up in New York City and attended George Washington High School and graduated in 1951. In 1952, John enlisted with the United States Air Force and became a munitions instructor and handler. On September, 4, 1954 he married the love of his life Mary Jane Cooper. John retired as a Senior Master Sargent from the USAF in 1976. John’s twenty four year USAF service included being stationed at Lowry AFB in Denver, Colorado, Eielson AFB in Fairbanks, Alaska, March AFB in Riverside, California, Sculthorpe AFB in England, George AFB in Victorville, California, Sembach AFB in Germany, Travis AFB in Fairfield, California, Langley AFB in Hampton, Virginia and finally at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada where he retired from in 1976. He was a Vietnam Veteran and did two tours of duty in Thailand and one tour of duty in Korea. He also taught English to some of the locals while he was stationed in Thailand. After John’s retirement from the USAF, John graduated from the University of Nevada,Las Vegas (UNLV) in 1980 with a Master’s Degree in Special Education. He taught at St. Christopher’s Catholic School in North Las Vegas and then taught at Rose Warren and Oran K. Gragson Elementary Schools for Clark County School District. He retired from Clark County School District in 2008. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in North Las Vegas and St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Las Vegas. He was a chairman for the Pro Life Council for the Knights of Columbus in Las Vegas. He was also a 4th Degree Faithful Navigator and Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Helen (Hanifin) Galvin, his brother Paul Galvin and his wife Margaret (Peggy) and his sister Dorothy G. Pierpont and her husband Howard Pierpont.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Galvin(Cooper), son Timothy Galvin and his wife Rachel, Oro Grande, CA., daughter Rose Egnacheski and the late David Egnacheski, Tampa, FL., son Samuel Galvin, Sheridan, AR. and daughter Dorothy Galvin, Las Vegas, NV. His grandsons Robert Egnacheski, Christopher Egnacheski (Jessica), Matthew Galvin(Denna), Drew Galvin, the late Mason Galvin, John Paul Galvin and Thomas Galvin. His great grandchildren, Kylan Egnacheski, Max Egnacheski, Mason Galvin and Madylin Galvin. His late nephew John Galvin and wife Marie, nephew Paul Galvin and his wife Patricia and nephew Michael Galvin and his wife Patti Anne. He is also survived by 7 great nieces, four great nephews and many great great nephews and nieces.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Monday, October 28th 3pm to 7pm at Palm Mortuary, downtown (1325 N. Main St., Las Vegas, NV. 89101). Rosary will be at 6pm.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 29th at 1:00 pm at Our Lady of Las Vegas Catholic Church(3036 Alta Dr, Las Vegas, NV 89107) followed by a graveside service at 3pm at Palm Northwest Mortuary and Cemetery (on N Jones and 215)with reception to follow.
