Joseph Francis Adams, affectionately known to all as “Joey” passed away at his home in Las Vegas on June 6, 2023. He was in the arms of his loving wife, Kimberly Reed, with their dog, Jax, by his side. The cherished son of Joan Adams Downey and devoted brother to Joan Adams Hewitt (Charlie) and Susan Tulibacki (Tom), he took great pride and joy in his daughter Shannon Adams (Billy) and granddaughter Mia. Joey was a dear uncle to Sean, Alexander, Adam, Justin, Brett and Cole. He is also survived by his Uncle Bob (Aunt Grace), Aunt Peggy, Aunt Judi, Aunt Marie and Aunt Sue as well as many cousins who loved him and will miss him greatly.
Joey was proud of his “South Philly” roots. He attended Sacred Heart of Jesus School where he fondly recited many poems and songs of the beloved, Sister Helen Regina. He had a gift for being able to draw and his poetry book was beautifully adorned with his artwork. He also was quite the entrepreneur and had a shoe shine business and frequented many local establishments to shine the shoes of anyone willing to part with a dollar. After high school, Joey made the decision to join the United States Navy and traveled to Guam. He is a proud patriot and a disabled Navy veteran. After the Navy, Joey attended the Restaurant School, known now as Walnut Hill School of the Arts. All those who knew him, know what a talent he had when it came to cooking. He loved making meals for the family and made everything he touched look and taste delicious. Joey also had a passion for poker, and living in Las Vegas, he had numerous opportunities to visit the poker rooms at the casinos and was always excited to share photos of his chips piled up high on the table!
He was passionate about his Philadelphia sports teams especially the Philadelphia Eagles and on Sundays was always cheering on his team from a distance.
To quote an Irish Proverb, “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can steal.” God now holds the life we all loved.
Visitation and Funeral Service will be on Thursday, June 22nd from 9am to 10:30 am from the Rogers Funeral Home, Inc., 1426-30 South Third Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org) or Disabled American Veterans National Headquarters, 860 Dolwick Drive, Erlanger, KY 41018, as this was a cause near and dear to his heart.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.palmnorthwest.com for the Adams family.
