

In La Tonya’s early years, she was a competitive gymnast, earning several awards. She attended Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan, where she was a part of the swim team as a competitive diver. Upon graduating from Cass Tech in 1985, she pursued higher education at Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana, earning her Bachelor of Business Education in 1990. At Grambling, she was a cheerleader and a member of the marching band as a Grambling Orchesis Dancer. She furthered her studies at the University of Detroit Mercy, where she obtained a Master of Education.
Her professional career began as a technical writer at IBM in Austin, Texas. However, La Tonya’s passion for teaching and children led her to a fulfilling career in education. She served as a teacher and assistant principal in the Detroit Public Schools system and later as a counselor in the Clark County School District in Las Vegas.
La Tonya had a wide array of personal hobbies and interests, including supporting the Detroit Lions, watching Food Network, dancing, water aerobics, reading, home décor, hiking, and attending concerts and comedy shows. She was also significantly involved in the community. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, initiated in the Alpha Theta chapter at Grambling in 1987, the Las Vegas Grambling Alumni Chapter, and a life member of the Grambling State University National Alumni Association.
La Tonya was known for her loving and cheerful nature, often described as a super mom and phenomenal woman. She had a special bond with her daughter, and she was a loving daughter and a loyal friend. La Tonya was also recognized for her philanthropic spirit, sincerity, and superior work ethic. Her spiritual understanding, nonjudgmental demeanor, and light-hearted energy made her a joy to be around.
La Tonya passed away on November 23, 2025 at the age of 57 years old in Las Vegas, NV. She is survived by her daughter, Maya Tamia Rumbley; mother, Gloria Clark-Arnold; stepfather, George Arnold; father, Charles Powell; stepmother, Karen Powell; stepbrothers, George Arnold Jr. and Brian Pickett; stepsisters, Alice Bradfield and Ericka Russell; uncle, Marshall Davis; aunt, Patricia Spencer; and first cousins, Kameron Spencer, Cleta Davis, Vernita Myra Davis, Michael Davis, and Marcus Davis (Ariana). She also leaves behind her beloved “grand dog”, Winter; her long-time friend Cindy Campbell and sons Brandon and Tristan, whom she loved as her own, along with a large host of family and friends who will cherish her memory.
La Tonya Grace Clark will be deeply missed by all who know and love her.
