Hello Layton,
I just wanted to stop in and let you know I was thinking of you. This has been a hard year for all those who knew and loved you. I have to wonder how many times you've looked down on us and laughed or cried with us. Especially if Ralph Cline is sittin there with you!!
I know you are with our Almighty Father, and glowing in his graces. But still missed here. I love you!

Ah my little brother how I miss you so much!  You were always quiet and kept to yourself but you were an awesome kid. When you weren't quiet you were one of the funniest people I have ever met! Remember the day at the old house where you went running through the kitchen with the floor wet and collided butt first into the door? We are all so little but we all remember it to this day and laugh every time we talk about it.  I love you Layton!

Layton was a great friend my whole life.  When my parents told me he was really sick I said, "Dude that Sucks!" I am glad that we were able to chill together while he was in the hospital, he did some funny stuff in there. 

Before he got sick, Layton and I played video games...alot of hours spent on the controllers.  He always spent the night at my house and would come to church with us, then the next night instead of going home he would ask for me (and my Xbox) to stay the night at his house.  One time, he helped me make a video for a project, I think it took half of the day to finnish.  

Halloween was not the same this year without my best bud.  

Mark, I promise not to flood the upstairs bathroom anymore; we really thought Shelby was in the shower.

The last few years the Cline home has felt like our second home, whether for holidays or playdates. Being an only child, Oliver so loved hanging out with all the Cline kids, but he enjoyed Layton because he was like a big brother. Getting Mom to allow some playtime with the Wii was always a top priority! The kid was a gamer at heart! I have "heard" (*wink wink*) that Layton would beg Maddie to go ask Mom if they could play....for if she asked the answer would be yes and the kids would have a blast together Wii-ing the afternoon away.  Layton was the master at the Wii. Oliver told a story where they were playing Brawl and Layton discovered some "new moves"...Oliver asked "How did you do that?!" Layton's response was, "Oh, it's basic--it's because I'm so freakishly AWESOME!" 

 Oliver told me of another story which included some stuffed animals, Lindsay, Maddie, Oliver, and of course, Layton and his video camera and movie-making skills. After Layton filmed what he wanted the kids gathered to watch it, and Oliver said Layton had them all cracking up! He was so good at making the younger kids laugh! 

Just a few weeks ago it seems the kids were playing in the pool in the backyard and Oliver said how much fun he had...Layton acting like a dolphin and swimming up under the kids. 

Oliver said one of Layton's favorite bands was Linkin Park. Everytime we hear "Castle of Glass," we think of you, Layton.

Although we hung out at the Cline house and we loved Layton, Brad and I  were not as close to Layton as he was with Oliver, naturally, since he was not usually hanging out with the adults. But Brad and I always talked and teased about the state of Layton's perpetual "guinea pig" hair, and we only mean that in a loving way! It rarely looked anything other than "bedhead style," which to us showed that attitude of not sweating the small stuff, something most adults can use a lesson in! We also were remembering last New Year's Eve when Sherry and Chuck were over with their daughter. We all know that Layton was a quiet kid, but Brad remembered thinking how Layton just seemed to click with their daughter and was so talkative and they were in their own little world-we had never seen him like that! Although quiet for most, it was obvious when he clicked with someone it was something special.

I can still see Layton running through the sprinklers in our backyard, his head bobbing in the spa and him flying through the air as he jumped into the pool and played like a kid should. Our neighborhood gathering every Halloween is always a special treat and will never be quite the same without him. He obviously touched so many people around him, sometimes in the quietest or the simplest of ways. 

Oliver and I hear songs that will forever remind of us of Layton. We were blessed to have known him and enjoyed him while he was here on Earth...Our memories will keep him forever in our hearts until we all meet again. Our hearts and prayers go out to you Scarlet and Mark, Shelby, Sierra, Lindsay, and Madison. He is a treasure that will be missed every day.

Layton, you will be greatly missed by so many. Your faith, strength, courage, and happiness touched the hearts and lives of us all. There are no words to take away the sorrow. Only joy in the knowledge that you now sit beside Christ waiting and watching over us. Mark and Scarlett, my heart goes out to you. I pray you find the peace and comfort you seek. Shelby, Sierra, Lindsey, and Madison, Layton will always be with you in your hearts. You only have to listen. As I look back thru your  years there are several things that stand out one of the great times I saw you sisters and cousin enjoying was running thru the water sprinklers. But as you grew older your interests changed like bikes another was the b b gun hitting targets. Your love of atv's riding and going fast. You said it was like flying.
All of this was topped off by a stop at T C B Y for that cone you liked. Always the same flavor.
Then the summer you and family stopped on your yearly trip and went on the lake with us you rode the tube and the jet ski. You said we need to do this more often. We all agreed it was a great day. 
We all wish there could have been lots more of them!
I am so very thankful for the good times I had with you would have been better to have lots more years. 
I Love you and miss you, but know you are in a pain free and loving place.

From the very beginning, Layton and I had an unbreakable bond. We entered the world together and were closer to each other than we were to anyone else. He was my twin brother. Everyday we spent together was full of adventure and laughter. I remember when we were little; playing outside with the Crazy Daisy which we thought was the coolest thing since sliced bread. I remember dressing up for Halloween as a red M&M and he went as the blue M&M. I remember the blankets grandma made for us and we would chew on the corners. He loved those blankets. I remember going to school together up until high school where we decided to go to different schools. That was a hard decision and it wasn't easy to go to school without him. But it really just made us closer and our bond stronger. I remember him being there to comfort me when I needed it and I remember him always being positive. He didn't have a negative bone in his body and he was the kindest person I know. I remember him always showing me funny videos and we would always make funny faces at each other. He always gave me a goodnight hug and always said good morning when he woke up. I remember that one time he kicked me when we were walking down the hall of the hospital; only because he didn't want to wear a mask. I remember taking him on walks and he would always grab my hand. He didn't show affection much so him wanting to hold my hand was a surprise and something we hadn't done since we were little. But one of the things I remember most was how much he loved wearing his suit. He had so much confidence when he wore it and he was so proud of it. He also loved the fact that we both professionally dressed on Wednesday so we sort of matched. I also remember senior pictures. Layton was never much of a picture taker but he was all for it that day. He did whatever Kris asked him to do and he always smiled.  That was probably one of his favorite days. He grew so fast, and me, always being taller than him and weighing more than him, was soon looking up at him because he had gotten so tall so fast. But for as long as I can remember, I always reminded him that I was eleven minutes older than him. His favorite movie was The Goonies and his favorite band was Skillet. He liked mixing all the slurpee flavors together to get some weird flavor that always turned out tasting really good. He loved Shockers and anything sour. He loved root beer and Jones soda. There's nothing I don't know about Layton.  I can't remember a time in my life when we weren't close. We talked every single day about things that didn't matter and we talked about things that did. We would walk home together and we would walk up to the store together. Layton really made my life better and when he wasn't around, a part of me felt like it was missing. Whenever he had spent the weekend at a friends house, (usually, Zach's house) I would be at the door ready to hug him when he got home or I would be in the car when we went to go pick him up. I couldn't imagine a life without Layton being a part of it. Toward the end of junior year, Layton and I talked about going to each other's proms together because I wanted to go with the one person who was always there for me, and the one person who cared about me and that was Layton. We talked about our graduation party and how much fun it was going to be. He talked about his dreams a lot. He wanted to be a video game tester. Layton was a champion at video games. I remember after he came home from the hospital, he let me play Black Ops with him and he got mad when he saw how bad I was because I was messing up his score. Lets just say, he didn't want me to play with him anymore.
 Layton was such a blessing and a light to me. He was there for me when no one else was, which was a lot. He always did his best to make me feel better when I was having a rough time with whatever was going on at the time. He would literally let me cry on his shoulder and he would always tell me that everything was going to be okay. He was my reason to get better and he was always there to support me through my struggles. He knew all of my secrets and he knew all of my dreams and aspirations. Layton was the person who helped me become a better person. He helped me choose my career path. Layton was my courage, my hope, my strength, my best friend. Layton was my other half. My better half. I don't know where I would be if it weren't for Layton. He showed me all of the secrets to being a genuine person just by going through his daily routine. He was genuine without even knowing it. He touched the lives of everyone he knew and everyone could have learned something from him. He was a good person with a heart of gold who loved unconditionally and forgave without hesitation. Layton was my light at the end of the tunnel. If it had been a whole lifetime before I lost you, it would still be too soon Layton. Seventeen years wasn't enough. Even though that's all I got, I still learned a ton and I will always have our memories. Our whole life together was a memory. A memory that I will cherish forever. Thank you Layton for being there to experience life with me since day one and thank you for making my life worthwhile. You taught me so much and I can't even begin to explain how amazing of a brother you are. You are the love of my life. And our bond remains. I love you Layton Edward Cline. To the moon and back. Layton, you were a total blessing to me. I was so blessed to have you for 17 years! Not long enough. My heart is broken,I love you so much and I miss you more than words can express. Dear Layton,

I cannot imagine the loss of his laughter in the house. The funny faces made at each other in the car... I can't think of any words to make the hurt in your hearts better. I wish I could... I am sure of the love your family, both families have, for all of you. We are here when you need us.

While we we not fortunate enough to know Layton very well he was still part of our family and he will be greatly missed.  Prayers for your entire family while you grieve your loss.

Layton, you will surely be missed. I greatly admired the fact that you did not have a single malicious bone in your body and you were always ready for some type of adventure. It was an honor to have the priviledge of growing up with you and your family. I wait for the day to see you again and have more adventures.

Layton you are still here with me close by all the wonderful memories that I have of you. I see you so clearly playing in our pool.  You loved it when you were little enough and I could pick you up and throw you in the water. I remember your laugh. I can see you the last summer you were here walking across the lawn over to Mandy and Lee's as soon as they got home you wanted to be the first one to get over there, but I swear I see you.  I remember the last time you were here and you got out of Aunt Laura's car you had sun glasses on and a hat and I thought to myself what a handsome you man you were becoming. I will always remember you entertaining us with dancing with the wii and how good you were and how you could keep up with the most difficult dances.  You were great.  You were never one to be look at me.  You were very low key, never getting upset.  Remember when I was out there for Shelby's graduation and your mom wanted me to take some of the pants that you had gotten to tall for and make them into shorts.  They really came out terrible, but you wore them and never once said anything about them.  Once we went to Michaels and I let each of you a velvet picture with markers to color.  I went over to Mandy and Lee's and you was coloring on yours and it was totally beautiful.  I knew that you were a very artistic person.  you are here right in my heart and any time I want to see you all I have to do is think of you and I can see you so clearly. Layton I love you, but I will see you again.

Layton, in your picture gallery there is a photo titled  "Deep in thought" that is how I remember you, so much on your mind, sweet, shy.  I regret not getting to talk to you more.  
Layton, Bridgett and Joshua set out to make a scary movie in Papa Dave's woods, mischiveous boys had a real pocket knife they were using for the "bad guy".  I remember throwing a fit because I didn't think they should be using a real knife.  {even in the movies they use fakes}  The threesome fashioned a fake knife and the movie was awesome!
Johsua was taken with Layton they were summer buds.  Joshua was very very sad when Layton lost his battle and is still coping with his loss.  I remember the two of them walking around in the woods and property of Aunt Dusty and Uncle Dave's for hours talking.
Playing "Plants vs Zombies" with all the cousins gathered around to learn the best stradgies.
And of course the little girls, Jzanna, Emily & Onnalee hanging on Layton's every word asking Layton to swing them on the swingset, jumping and playing with Layton.  I watched as he carried them around, and Layton driving them around on the golf cart.  Even when they lined up at the bathroom door waiting for Layton "their boyfriend" to come out, Layton never complained.

We made a movie together in the woods. I helped Layton and Bridget, I played Laytons brother. I had a great time with him. We played video games together. I loved walking around the woods with him just talking, and killing poison berries. I will miss our time together, I love him very much

He was very nice and very good at video games. We spent time in the woods together exploring and him and Bridget would make up great stories. I love him and will miss him.

I remember Layton making movies at grandma Dusty's. I followed him all over begging him to let me watch it but my mom said it was to scary. I would watch him play video games and he told me all about them. He made me laugh. I thought he was a comedian. I love him he was a great cousin.

I remember when Layton made a video when he was at my house. I liked it when he would swing me and carry me around.  He would carry me on his shoulders, it was very high. He loved me and he was my baby sisters boyfriend. I love him very much.

I remember Layton swinging me outside. He had blonde hair like me. I am sad that he's not here anymore. He was very good at swinging me. I love him.

I just remember one summer with my cousin Layton but we had lots of fun. He would carry me all around grandma Dusty's house. He let me sit on him when he layed on the floor. He was my boyfriend and I will always love him. I love you Layton.

I remember when Layton and I would put on a rock concert for the family every year. I had this inflatable guitar that got a hole in it. Despite this however, he would continue to rock out like a true guitarist even though it was deflating as he was playing. He was my best cousin and we had the best times together.

I remember one summer we were staying at Aunt Lauras house and he came. We had an idea to make a scary movie. We filmed at and it was funny and a lot of fun with Layton there. We had a lot of fun and I will never forget it. I will never forget him and all the memories I have with him.

I remember one time Sara, my cousin Layton, and I were all staying at our Aunt Laura's house and she promised our grandparents that we would come to town that night. She decides to leave around dinner time. We go out to eat at Village Inn and we all order top sirloin except for Layton. Layton orders blueberry pancakes and the waitress kept calling him sweety and honey and stuff like that. It was so funny. I miss Layton so much. From Lisa Dittemore

Our warm memories of Layton began the day he arrived.  Special days were spent with him changing diapers, feeding him and simply feeling his joy as a new born person. We recall his efforts to walk and his love for a blanket from his grandmother.  A blanket he would cherish for many  years, reminding us of the cartoon character Linus.  Even at this early age he displayed a patience that would follow him as he matured.  As Layton grew he filled our memories with kindness, love and respect.  We remember his love for white tigers, all things blue and looking for sea shells, building sand castles and the ocean.  We smile as we think of  the times he visited us.  The time he spent walking in the woods enjoying the birds, the plants and the quiet solitude of creative reflection.  It was probably during these moments he developed his movies and videos he would perform for us during his visits.  He would also act out various commercials.  One of our favorite commercials was the bra commercial done in an English accent!  He also enjoyed driving the golf cart on one of his first visits.  He found out the first summer that the tree stumps in our yard were quite solid, even when struck by a golf cart!!  Layton always found something new that fed his curious nature.  He marveled that anyone would keep petrified dinosaur dung and offer it for  sale in the shops along I-40.  He was very excited watching chicken eggs hatch and watching them grow quickly while he was with us.  He even gave the new chicks names.  He enjoyed a quiet time with us as he learned to sew a pillow case or  put a crayon quilt together.  We were always very taken by Layton's humor.  He found humor in many forms and he made us laugh at his antics.  With a cousin who also  helped in his bra commercial he devised a plan to dress up like clowns and scare a very unsuspecting aunt.  We laughed all evening!  Our most precious memory of Layton is  his  patience and caring for the younger children when he visited.  Layton would spend time with all of his cousins, no matter how young or how old.  He would take time to listen and answer their questions.  He did  not  mind that they followed him everywhere he went.  His cousins thought of him as a mentor, a friend, a cousin and a big brother.  Everyone in our family loved Layton for his gifts of patience, caring, creativity, humor, love and curiosity.

   Layton was a very polite and quiet boy. My first memories of him was when we went to Las Vegas and he was on the kitchen floor eating bread right out of the loaf. Then they came home for Christmas he sat in front of the tree looking at the lights and ornaments. He didn't try to touch the lights I was afraid he would get burned I don't think they were real hot but hot enough to burn. He got a little older and he loved to play board games and put puzzles together and then he learned to read he wanted to read to me. He read real well and I was so proud of him. I cleaned his room while he was in school and he came home and thanked me. 
Scarlet and family were here in august he was so grown up and looked so well. He spent most of his time with Laura. Him and Sierra were close they were talking about proms and graduation and then the curtain closed on our special grandson! May he rest in peace. He will never be forgotten! Grams and Gramps

Layton will be missed in the Gobright home.  He and my son Zack were good friends, often he would spend the night at our home in a "sister-free" zone.  I loved that kid, he never complained about what I served for dinner!  Today, I'm reminded of how Layton would enjoy the old neighborhood, trick-r-treating with our families.  It seems like the 7 weeks with Leukemia went by so quickly... yet I see God's favor in allowing time for you to leave and create more memories.  For those who are in Christ we will never say good-by forever.  Layton was a respectful young man with integrity and a loyal friend.  With tears of sadness, love and continued prayers for the Cline Family,  Diana   

Dwayne (my husband) said he once drove Layton home and he did not say anything the whole ride, so he took Zack the next 100+ trips.

A message from Layton's little sister
I remember when Layton and I were playing Hide and go Seek and I went to the tree he was hiding at. And when I got back behind the tree he wasn't there and I was sliding around the tree and he was on the opposite end and it took me a few minutes to figure that out. So finally I went the opposite way and there Layton was. I was so happy to see him. I remember on Sunday we would always play the Wii and it was so much fun I love him more than anything he brought me happiness it was a joy to have him I got 8 years to figure that out I got a lot from him he was the greatest brother ever nothing could replace him. It was great having him here I wish I could have him a lot longer than 8 years.

Layton was my older brother and he was the one that would listen to my issues and he wouldn't complain. When I found out that Layton had leukemia I really did freak out. I was afraid that he wasn't going to survive but he was doing great. Then when my fear became a reality I couldn't handle it. The days that followed after my heart was overwhelmed with sadness that he wasn't with me any more. But Layton rest in peace and never forget that I love you and miss you a ton and I don't know what I would have done with out you these past couple years when I needed a listener. My heart goes out to you and your family. praying for your family for peace in this time of sorrow. know you guys from your mom and dad in Bumpus mills Tn. May God give you strength to get though this.

When I think about the journey we have been on the past 8 weeks it seems like a lifetime of shock, hope, fear, exhaustion, uncertainty, love, caring and other emotions have manifested into this one period of time.  When Scarlet notified us that Layton lost his battle on October 18th she said she would never be the same.  This is true for all of us who loved Layton from the very moment he and Sierra entered the world together.  
I am and will always be Layton's Aunt Stella and also his Godmother.  I have been blessed that despite the miles between us we would get to see this beautiful boy and his family each summer at our home in Oklahoma.   The visits started the same way each time.  The van would pull into the driveway and we usually made it to the driveway from the house before the kids started to unload.  The beautiful smiles that greeted us were such a treat and each year we were in awe of how much the “Cline Kids” had grown from their last visit.  The girls were always chatty as girls are known to be but Layton would enter the house and immediately find our beagle Daisy, who was at the front door waiting, and he would drop to the floor beside her and close his eyes and gently pet his long time summer friend.  This sight always brought such a lump in my throat because it was a tender, sweet moment.  
Layton was a beautiful, sweet spirit. He carried himself in a quiet way, avoided conflict, and he was always up for a new adventure especially if it had something to do with water, bowling, going to the movies, and eating at fun places.  This precious boy did not have a mean bone in his body.  If we haven't learned anything else from this sad time of loss, we need to take a look at ourselves and try to be more like Layton.  There would be fewer conflicts, more precious moments, and a new gratitude to be able to go on living until it is our time to leave our earthly lives. 
Layton's sisters have shown a remarkable level of strength, courage, and love for their one and only brother.  They took care of each other when mom and dad were at the hospital.  They looked out for each other and made sure each other was doing okay.  I know that Layton was very proud of his sisters for the love and care they showed to him during this difficult time.  I know he wants them to continue doing well in school, enjoying life and new adventures with the family.  He wouldn't want life to stop but for life to have a new purpose.  Layton thrived when the people around him were happy.  If we can live our lives to make the people around us happier we can consider it our gift to the memory of Layton.
 I believe with all my heart that in the late hours of October 18 God rescued Layton.  For all of us who thought Layton was not strong enough for the battle he was given, we were very, very wrong.  This beautiful, sweet spirit dealt with his fight against leukemia and its ensuing complications with dignity, calmness, and politeness to others.  He reached out for the written Word when he did feel afraid and regained his stoic strength through it.  His mom and dad stayed by his side and never saw him waiver in his faith.  His faith shone through his calmness and acceptance of all of the difficult procedures, treatments, and hospital stays that were thrust on him.  
 Layton, words cannot express how much me and Uncle Larry are going to miss you bounding out of the van and into our home for another summer adventure.  You made a difference in our lives and we will never forget our visits, hugs, and silly times.  We look forward to seeing you again sweet, beautiful, boy.  We know you are watching us and we are going to do our best to make you proud.  Love you forever and always.  Aunt Stella and Uncle Larry  10-22-13
