Ligaya "Joy" Duenas, born on August 30, 1946, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the hearts of everyone who knew her. On January 10, 2025, she passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Joy grew up in Manila, Philippines, where she developed her strong family values and deep love for life. In March 1991, she moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where her journey in the United States began. Eventually, she made her home in Las Vegas, Nevada, a place she cherished with her family.
It was while working at the Blood Bank of Hawaii that Joy met her soulmate, Tony Duenas. Their love grew from simple beginnings into a lifelong partnership filled with devotion, laughter, and countless walks shared hand in hand. Together, they created a warm and loving home, where Joy found joy in gardening, cooking, and taking care of her family.
Joy’s greatest happiness came from her family. She was a proud mother to her five children: Ronald, Rob, Abby, Leah, and Rudy. Her heart overflowed with love for her four grandchildren: Axl, Ethan, Mia, and Rhyse. Spending time with her grandchildren brought her the most radiant smiles and filled her home with warmth and laughter.
Even when life presented its challenges, Joy remained strong. Diagnosed first with dementia, which later progressed to Alzheimer’s disease, she faced each day with grace and courage. Through it all, her family stood by her, a testament to the love she nurtured throughout her life.
Joy was the heart of her family, always putting the needs of others before her own. She had a way of making everyone feel special, whether through her home-cooked meals, her loving words, or her quiet presence. Her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She will forever be remembered for her warm smile, her gentle spirit, and the love she gave so freely. Joy’s memory will remain a beacon of love and inspiration for her family and all who were blessed to know her.
