It is with the most profound sadness that we announce the sudden, unexpected passing of our “Dacdy” – Lon Paul Gilgor – on March 18, 2025, at the age of 66. Born July 26, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dacdy considered Las Vegas his hometown, having lived here since December 30, 1970.
The stories about Dacdy are the ones that are made of legends. Dacdy was known throughout the city for his incredible humor, that time he shot a 293 game bowling at Nationals, his unnatural ability to remember everyone’s birthday – earning him the self-coined moniker “The Birthday Bandit” – his ability to imitate his hero, Mick Jagger, better than anyone had ever seen, countless air guitar and air drum sessions, and for just being an overall fun, funny dude.
His last years were spent being retired, taking care of his life-partner, Carol, and their cats, while dealing/playing poker with his best friends and “chasing the sweat” every chance he got. Basically, Dacdy did exactly what Dacdy wanted to do and lived his life the same.
In fact, Dacdy made his 2025 March Madness picks prior to his passing. He picked Florida to win it all, over Alabama, with a tie breaker of 144 points. Not only that, but now he can enjoy countless sleeves of Fig Newtons. He may not have been a “three Fig Newton eater” in life, but he will be in death.
Carol was the love of Dacdy’s life, and he cherished every moment he spent taking care of her. Whether it was cooking his amazing signature dishes or doing simple household errands; it was his sole focus until the very end. Dacdy put Carol and the cats first in his world and always wanted to make sure they were ok before doing anything for himself.
He also relished the legacy now carried on by his two daughters. He lit up every time he talked about them and couldn’t have been prouder of the women they became. They will utterly miss talking sports, wrestling, music, food, and Big Brother with him. As well as miss every other thing that comes with the loss of a parent.
Dacdy didn’t dwell much on death or mourning, so we’re keeping this short and sweet.
Dacdy was preceded in death by his mother, Janice (St. Clair) Gilgor; his father, Jerry Gilgor; sister Sandy Brownell; brother, Seth Gilgor; and his beloved cat, Cloudy.
Dacdy leaves behind his forever partner of 22 years, Carol Reagan, of Las Vegas; his two daughters, Jessica and Nicole – of Denver and Las Vegas, respectively; his brother, Bernie Gilgor, of Florida; his cat Stormy; and a myriad of friends and colleagues across the country, who were more family than they were friends.
Dacdy lived life to the fullest and wouldn’t want us to mourn the absence of his presence in this world. He would want us to celebrate the legend he was, share all the best stories of Dacdy, and celebrate the bonds he made with everyone in his short time in this world. And that’s exactly what we are going to do. The “Greatest Lon Party of All-Time” will be held on his birthday, July 26, 2025 at 4-7pm at Sierra Gold Smoke Ranch Tavern, 7574 Smoke Ranch Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89128.
