Lynn Clayton Peterson, 82, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully at home, on December 23, 2024. She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband of 36 years, Richard, her stepchildren, Michael and Nancy and their spouses and children, her sister-in-law, nephews, and countless other friends and family, whose lives were touched by her warmth, generosity, kindness and grace.
Lynn was born in Chicago, Illinois, the oldest child of Ralph and Helen Clayton. She grew up in the Chicago suburb of Naperville, Illinois, where she began a life-long love of music. Lynn attended Naperville Community High School and North Central College, graduating with a B.A. degree in elementary education.
Always wonderful with children, Lynn taught fourth grade for three years, before moving to the Washington, D.C. area, where she became personal secretary to the late Congressman (and briefly Senator) Jim Broyhill of North Carolina. Lynn worked for Congressman Broyhill for 19 years, delighting in the constituent interactions that were central to her job. An integral member of the Broyhill office, she was adored by constituents and colleagues alike.
After retiring, Lynn and Richard lived in Oxnard, California, before moving to Las Vegas, living first at Siena Retirement Community, then at Sun City Summerlin, and finally at Las Ventanas at Summerlin.
Lynn and Richard shared a passion for travel, visiting countries on several continents and accumulating many unique, exciting travel experiences. They took cruises around South America and throughout the Caribbean, to French Polynesia, Antarctica, Greenland, Iceland, Mexico, Alaska, and Northern Europe, through the Panama Canal, and along the Amazon and Nile Rivers. They also enjoyed a Transatlantic flight on the Concorde Supersonic Transport and visits to numerous countries, including Egypt and Uganda. While visiting Uganda, Lynn survived close encounters with a large pod of hippos and a rather intense herd of elephants.
Lynn was also an excellent cook, an avid cookbook collector, and a wonderful hostess. She was a long-time member of Mountain View Presbyterian Church and the Rotary Club of Las Vegas, Summerlin.
Lynn is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Helen Clayton, and her brother John Clayton.
Lynn's friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life, on Saturday February 1, 2025, at 11 am. Services will be held at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Webb Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada, followed by a luncheon at the church.
