Maffy Ward Forrester, 83, passed away May 1, 2016 in Las Vegas. Born in Washington, D. C. on July 2, 1932, Maffy developed a strong interest in government. Later, married to a government contractor, she found herself raising her children on an atoll in the Marshall Islands, where she became a Navy trained SCUBA diver. Maffy’s life in Las Vegas began in 1962. Here she was, among other activities, a pilot, President of International Progress Modalities (APL), Financial Comptroller of Lee Canyon Ski Lifts (1971-91), and financial officer of Catholic Charities Immigration and Refugee Services. In 1982 she completed her B.S. in Accounting at UNLV. An active community member, Maffy was especially interested in environmental issues and supported Friends of Nevada Wilderness and the Spring Mountain Association. She was also secretary of the Silver Haired Forum. Maffy’s consuming interest for the past 20 years has been Soroptimist International of Greater Las Vegas, an organization committed to improving the lives of women and girls. With this club she continued her life of community and worldwide service. Elected president and secretary, she led the club enthusiastically. And it was there that she developed life-long warm and loving friendships. Maffy Forrester is survived by one daughter, Kate Coe; one son, Frederick Holly Forrester (Cindy); six grandchildren: Robert Ryan Barquist (Melissa), Heather Lynne Lee (Brandon), Amanda Forrester, Tom Coe, Renee Coe, Brandon Forrester; and two great-grandsons, Caleb and Lucas Lee. Her son, John Coe, predeceased her in 2014. A memorial service will be held on May 21 at 11:00 A.M. at University United Methodist Church, 4412 S. Maryland Parkway. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Soroptimist International of Greater Las Vegas (SIGLV).
