Margaret “Maggie” “Magpie” (O’Brien) Steward was a woman of deep compassion, creativity, and devotion to others. Throughout her life, she gave generously of her heart, her talents, and her time, always searching for ways to help those around her.
Margaret spent many years in corporate America before answering a deeper calling to serve Veterans. As a leader and manager within VA hospitals, she poured herself into advocating for and supporting those who had served, bringing both strength and empathy to her work. Her service to Veterans was a reflection of who she was at her core—someone who saw people, valued them, and worked tirelessly on their behalf.
She was most proud of her son, Tyler Baker, whose life and future meant everything to her. She was also deeply proud of her award-winning art. Margaret loved creating in all forms—painting, drawing, abstract works, and mixed media. Her art often centered on the people she loved most, capturing family and friends through her unique and expressive lens.
Margaret lived her life investing in others. She was always searching for someone to help, while also longing to be loved unconditionally. In Marc Steward, she found the love she had always hoped for. She often said that the final years of her life were the absolute best, because of him.
Later in life, Margaret gave her life to Jesus and embraced her faith with passion and dedication. She studied, served, and grew deeply in her relationship with Him, approaching her faith with the same sincerity and commitment that marked every part of her life.
Margaret attended high school in Westville, Indiana, where she formed lasting and meaningful friendships that she cherished throughout her life. She loved returning to Westville to reconnect with friends and revisit the memories that shaped her.
Margaret is survived by her beloved son, Tyler Baker; her husband, Marc Steward; her mother, Kathleen O’Brien; and her brother, Kevin O’Brien. She will be remembered for her giving spirit, her artistic soul, her devotion to service, and the profound love she carried for those closest to her.
Her life was one of compassion, creativity, and connection—and her legacy lives on in the people she loved, the lives she touched, and the art she left behind.
A committal service will be held at 8:00 AM, on Friday, February 13th, 2026, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Mem, Boulder City, NV, 89005.
