Mary Gail McCollum (Morgan), age 71 of Las Vegas, Nevada, was called home peacefully on the morning of Friday, February 28th 2025. A loyal, loving and devoted wife to her late husband of 47 years, Ronnie McCollum, Mary spent her life committed to her family and treasured every moment with her four grandchildren. Mary was born December 17, 1953 in Hazard, Kentucky to her late parents, Farris Morgan Sr. and Jerolene Morgan (Thompson).
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved in-laws E. Wilburn McCollum and Edna McCollum (Leece), husband Ronald McCollum, parents Farris Sr. and Jerolene Morgan, baby brother Farris Morgan Jr., sister Linda Gossett (Morgan), oldest brother Larry Morgan and precious niece April Dawn Hamm (Morgan). Mary was a loving and affectionate mother to Kimberly (Anthony) Girod, Kelly McCollum and Kevin (Summer Zamorano) McCollum. Mary was best known as Mimi to her four grandchildren Jett Girod, Lillian McCollum, Rock Girod and Briella McCollum.. They were the ultimate light of her life and she loved them to the moon and back with a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck. She was also an aunt to many nieces and nephews she spoke of often.
Mary practiced what she preached and always put her family before herself. In the late 1990’s she went back to school and got braces! She graduated with honors from Urbana University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Mary began her marketing career in 1986 as a marketing specialist with The Iams Company founded in Dayton, Ohio under leadership of Clay Mathile. She loved The Iams Company (purchased by P&G in 1999), where she got to take trips to San Francisco and attended the Iditarod in Alaska multiple times. She remained there for 23 years until she moved to Las Vegas to be with her children in 2007. She became a substitute teacher for CCSD for two years before becoming a Senior Marketing Specialist for IGT in 2011 and ending her career with GLI in late 2019 as Global Marketing Communications Manager where she retired to care for her late husband.
Mary was a faithful and a devoted Christian and attended Canyon Ridge Christian Church where she was a part of bible study and WOW (women of the word). She was known for her classy style, shopping ‘til she dropped, ability to accessorize, being a great boss, having patience like Job, enjoying great food, and always putting her family first. Mary defined the word homemaker with her love of gardening, cooking, reading, decorating and she loved painting pottery with her grandkids. She had a passion for theater, the arts and music where her love for the oldies like The Monkeys and Diana Ross to J Lo was never out of touch or style. She loved her dogs Fuji, Grizzley, Pixie and Pugsley.
You will find her somewhere over the rainbow.
