Maxine Synoria Sharp was born on July 15th, 1944, to Esther Stanton and Jesse Smith. Although the family originated from Mississippi, they soon moved to Los Angeles, California where she grew up. She would later be joined by two new siblings: Her sisters Lois and Patricia were born soon after.
She had a love of art, dancing, music, and singing. Although she enjoyed dancing and even entered into some dance contests, it was the latter that would eventually take her around the world sharing her God-given voice of singing to many crowds in stadiums from across the United States, to Germany, Japan, Australia, and many others. She would work with numerous artists such as Ike and Tina, Mary Wells, Boz Scaggs, Leo Sayer, Mac Davis, John McNally, Cyndi Lauper, The Ohio Players, and finally, Joe Cocker. She has performed on many of their recordings, late-night television shows such as David Letterman, European television shows, and has earned gold and platinum records before God finally enlisted her to sing in His choir.
She cherished her love of cooking, music, spending time with her family and occasionally frequenting the casino, spending time with her in-laws Dolores and Richard. Maxine is survived by her husband Tony, her sisters Lois and Patricia, children Angel and Eric, daughter-in-law Kristan, grandchildren Meka, Sachi, and Kiyo, nephews and nieces Craig, Mona, Allan, and Devonna, and many grand-nieces and nephews.
