
Maybelle moved to Las Vegas, NV December of 1952 with her husband Vernell Cowart and 7 children; Wanda, Donald, Isiah, Reginald, Thomas, Vernell and Edward. Later, they welcomed 3 additional children; Anthony, Kenneth, and Larie. As life moved on, as a single mother, she raised ten children with unwavering love, strength, and resilience
Maybelle found Christ at an early age in Mississippi at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She later joined Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Las Vegas, NV.
Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family as she worked as a housekeeper at the Flamingo Hotel. She later worked at Hill Haven Nursing Home, retiring in 1987. She was one of the longest, living residents of Aloha Mobile Home Park for over 60 years, leaving behind a historic legacy.
Maybelle leaves to mourn her loss, her daughter, Wanda Toney of Las Vegas, NV. Her four sons, Anthony “Tenny” Cowart, Kenneth “Kent” Cowart (Barbara), Isiah “Ike” Cowart, and Edward “Eddie” Cowart all of Las Vegas, NV. Her brother; Eddie McGrew of Chicago, Illinois. Her two daughter-in-laws Angel Cowart and Eva Cowart of Las Vegas, NV and Dicey Cowart of Shreveport, Louisiana. Thirty-eight grand-children and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory, a special family member, Lorraine Southern.
Maybelle is preceded in death by immediate family members; Rosa McGrew (Mother), Edward McGrew (Father). Her five sons, Donald ”Duck” Cowart, Vernell “Sonny” Cowart, Larie Cowart, Reginald “Reg” Cowart, Thomas “Mickey” Cowart and 2 daughter-in-laws Mildred “Gene” Cowart and Roberta “Doll” Cowart. Five siblings, Fred McGrew, Augusta McGrew, Hester Sims, George McGrew, and Lewis McGrew and great-grandson Christopher Thomas.
Maybelle was blessed to witness the birth of generations and leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and grace.
