Michael was called home on February 8th, 2025, after a vigilant battle with cancer. Mike was born September 21st, 1946, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to L. Neal “Pop” Vaughn and D. Abbitt “Nanny” Owens Vaughn. Mike spent his childhood in the other love of this life, Rolla, Missouri. He attended Rolla High School, graduating in 1964. After graduating, his calling was to serve his country, enlisting in the US Navy and serving 2 tours in Vietnam. After returning home, he moved out to the wild west and settled in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1970. Michael soon began his 38-year career in Vegas hospitality as a casino dealer, valet and his most loved job as Doorman at Bally’s Hotel and Casino. Michael met the love of his life, Carolyn “Carrie” Obritsch in 1971 at Circus Circus Hotel & Casino. They soon eloped in 1972 and began their beautiful life together. In 1973, Mike and Carrie joyfully welcomed their son, Patrick Michael, who still resides in Las Vegas. Mike and Carrie were established as Pawpaw and Grammy in 2002, when Patrick and his wife, Lisa, welcomed their first granddaughter Savannah Grace, soon followed by his namesake Olivia Leigh. Pawpaw was Mike’s favorite title. Many people describe Mike as the life of the party, with the Biggest Personality and the best hugs and sometimes a wet kiss on the lips.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, beloved brothers Neal “Macky” Vaughn and Kenny Vaughn.
He leaves behind a legacy of a wife of 52 years, Carrie, son Patrick (Lisa), granddaughters Savannah and Olivia, sisters Patty Carson and Myra Krumick, brothers-in-law Arn (Maureen), Bert, and Don (Nicola), as well as many cherished nieces and nephews, and so many friends near and far.
