Michele Gallone Pombo, 71, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away peacefully on January 20th, 2023, at home surrounded by her family after a well fought battle with cancer. Michele was born on June 8th, 1951, to Michael and Theresa Gallone as the first of eight siblings.
After Michele graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1969, she went on to study business at Paterson State College. In 1976, Michele met Lew at Joey Harrison’s Surf Club in Seaside Height, New Jersey. Michele and Lew were later wed on May 3rd, 1980, in St. Gerrard’s Church in Paterson, New Jersey. Michele and Lew went on to have one child, Lou Pombo, in 1991.
Michele started her career with office management and executive assistant positions in Paterson, New Jersey at Tiffany Extruders and, after relocating to Las Vegas in 1980, as Secretary to the President of Harrah’s Corporation. She entered the property management industry and became the Director of the Las Vegas Apartment Association. She then became a residential property manager with Southwest Management Group and later Realty Executives and pioneered the concept of vacation rentals in the Las Vegas market in the 1980s. She went on to manage her own division as a Co-Broker of Southwest Management Group for Vacation and Short-Term housing. She started her own, independent brokerage of Las Vegas TurnKey Rentals in 2013 at the age of 61, for which her son now carries the torch. She took a deep pride in her work, accomplishments, and abilities and never had intention of retirement.
Michele had an innate level of class and fashion that always struck those around her. She had a very headstrong and can-do attitude, and was, rightfully, very sure of her abilities and knowledge. She had a low tolerance for nonsense and moved decisively throughout her life as a strong and capable Daughter, Wife, Mother, & Business Owner. She loved to decorate her home and celebrate holidays with her family, especially Christmas. Cooking was her true labor of love; she found great pleasure in entertaining family for Sunday dinners and guests for Christmas parties and other celebrations. She loved to sing and cared tenderly for her garden at home in the desert. She loved trips to the Jersey Shore in her youth, and always loved the beach. After moving west, San Diego became her new Jersey Shore. She always liked to stay close to home and would take weekend vacations to Laughlin and Mesquite with friends and family. She maintained her Catholic faith throughout her life and lived as a strongly principled woman.
Michele was a deeply devoted and caring mother to her son. She strove to provide as much opportunity as she could to her son in ways not possible for her as a child. She gained a daughter, Victoria Pombo, wife of Lou Pombo, in September of 2022. She cared for and loved Victoria as her own and was joyous to have attended her child’s wedding.
Michele was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Dominic, Joey, Jerry, and Michael. She is survived by Lew Pombo, her son Lou Pombo, her daughter-in-law Victoria Pombo, her sisters Dominica, Theresa, and Mary, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Michele will be held Saturday, February 11th, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129.
