

Nerene Lichfield Ray, 87, a retired secretary, of Las Vegas, passed away Aug. 17, 2011, her birthday. She was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Provo, Utah, and was a 60-year resident of Nevada. Nerene held a zest for life and loved her family of four sons. She considered her boys to be the most handsome men of character possible. She was the wife of Troy A. Ray for 67 happy years. Active in her community, she assisted in many political figures' campaign efforts. She was instrumental in fighting against the ERA and was politically conservative. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Nerene served as a leader in the Young Women's program, Primary, Relief Society and Sunday School. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Troy H. Ray; her parents, Robert C. and Vinna Haws Lichfield; sister, Charlotte; and brothers, Howard, Robert, Walter and Joseph. Nerene is survived by her husband, Troy A. Ray; children, George (wife, Diana) Ray, Wyman (wife, Alice) Ray and Bob (wife, Gail) Ray; daughter-in-law, Susan Ray; brother, William H. Lichfield; niece, Jean H. Cornwall; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Nerene will be remembered by many she included in her life as though they were family. Viewing will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Palm Mortuary, 6701 N. Jones Blvd. (215N and N. Jones Blvd.). Viewing again 9-9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, with funeral services following at 10 a.m. both at the LDS Chapel, 6051 Dorrell Lane, Las Vegas, NV 89131. Burial will be at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City.
