

Norman attended school in West Warwick and Hope, Rhode Island. Upon graduation from high school in 1960, he joined the U.S. Navy and served 30 years of Faithful and Honorable Service. During his military career as an electronics technician, Norman served aboard the USS Bainbridge, the USS Enterprise and the USS Midway; and at duty stations NAS Alameda (CA), NAS Lemoore (CA), FLTCORGRU San Diego (CA) and NWC China Lake (CA).
After retiring from the Navy, “Chief Carroll” spent 15 years in Civil Service at the Range Control Center in Ridgecrest, CA where he received numerous commendations, including the Commanders Award for his pioneering work in the field of fiber optics, which played a significant role in developing today’s teleconferencing technology.
Norman also loved horses and made frequent trail rides on his beloved horse, “Sierra Sage” – riding and camping from Ridgecrest to destinations across the high desert and through the Sierra Mountains. Over his years in the military, Norman’s interests also included sailing, tennis and golf. In his later years, he was an avid viewer of golf and classic Western television.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Raymond Carroll Sr. and Simonne Morin Carroll, and by his daughter-in-law Vanessa Carroll. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Betty Rose Carroll; children Cheryl, James (Laurie), John (Vanessa), Teresa and Susan (Ron); eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Norman will be laid to rest at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV.
