

Norman Elden Nelson, 79, made his transition from this life Sunday, July 18, 2010. He was born in Clay County, Iowa, December 16, 1930. He was the son of Nels and Henrietta Vogel Nelson, the third of three boys and was fondly named "Nubs." He went to school in Iowa and after service in the U.S. Army in Guam and Okinawa, graduated from the University of Iowa with a baccalaureate degree in commerce, majoring in accounting. He was an auditor for the Public Service Commission, CenTel and later for Southwest Gas Corporation, from which he retired in 1992. He is survived by his wife, of 42 years, Barbara Ann Neumann Nelson and sons, Donald Keith Grable (wife, Keya Wooley Grable) and Dwayne Riley Nelson (wife, Rosalba Villarreal Nelson). He cherished and was so proud of his two sons and four grandchildren, Marion Renee Grable, Jordan Chadwick Grable of Las Vegas, Toni and husband, John Moore of Florida, and Layla Viviana Nelson of Las Vegas; brother, Art Nelson resides in Des Moines, Iowa; brother Tom and wife, Betty Nelson reside in Chariton, Iowa. Norman was active in Boy Scouts (Boulder Dam Area Council), his church, The Center for Positive Living and he loved to travel. A celebration of life will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Palm Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue. Internment will be a private family service at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by donations in Norman Nelson's name to the Nathan Adelson Hospice Foundation, 4141 South Swenson Street, Las Vegas, Nevada 89119, or the Center for Positive Living Building Fund, 6731 West Alexander, Suite 102, Las Vegas, Nevada 89108.
