1944, before returning to the heavens on December 15, 2024, from Las Vegas, Nevada.
In the dash, which was her life, she was the beloved daughter of Burrell & Mozelle Lappin, and the
cherished sister to Virgil, Maye, Ivan, Billy, Kay, Jacque, and Cheryl. On the sunny day of July 19,
1960, Patty became Mrs. Patricia Ann Hess, when she married the debonaire Mr. Raymond B.
Hess. While he was fire fighting first for the USAF and then at the Nevada Test Site, Patty became the heart of their home, the house manager and director of activities to their three children Danny, Felicia, and Charles-as well as countless siblings, nieces and nephews and neighborhood kids that frequented the home. As those kids grew, the family expanded with them. Their three children blessed them with four
granddaughters, who in turn gave them fifteen great grandchildren, and their legacy continued with
eight great great grandchildren.
The door to their home was always open. Whether lifting spirits, feeding hungry bellies, offering an ear to listen, shoulder to cry on, teach a craft, or share the lessons bible, she was always present for those she loved. Patty’s artistry was unmatched - she painted with such grace, crocheted love into every stitch and
cross-stitched with the patience of a saint.
On February 16, 2004, after 43 years of marriage, Ray passed leaving a void in Patty’s life that would never be filled. But the very woman Ray had fallen in love with stepped up, showing an even larger-than-life presence. She carried on their life legacy and became an even stronger pillar to so many lives and continued to shine brightly until the day she reunited with her beloved Ray.
She is now with Ray, Burrell, Mozelle, Virgil, Maye, Ivan, and Billy, all waiting to wrap her in a warm
embrace. She is home yet will forever live in our hearts and memories.
