It is with both sadness and profound respect that we announce the passing of Paul R. Bennett, who left us peacefully on May 5, 2025 at the Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City. He was just shy of a month after celebrating his 95th birthday on April 21, 2025. Paul was the last living child of the late Russell and Evelyn Bennett, joining his predeceased siblings, Arlene Ley, Mary Weigand, Thomas Bennett, Robert Bennett and Dorthy Westendorf.
Paul was a beloved uncle to over 30 nieces and nephews, fostering significant relationships with many, including his niece Sue, whose unwavering support greatly enriched his later years. Paul cultivated a playful and teasing personality that endeared him to all who knew him.
A proud Korean War veteran, Paul served with discipline and honor in the Air Force. He carried this same dedication into his academic pursuits, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce from Notre Dame University. His professional life was marked by a successful career with the Motorola Corporation in Chicago, Illinois, before he retired in 1997 to the more temperate climate of Boulder City, Nevada. His home there offered a beautiful view of Lake Mead, and he relished the proximity to Las Vegas, where he enjoyed attending shows, playing those poker machines and entertaining visiting siblings.
Paul was a man of generous spirit, often volunteering his time at Lending Hand, driving the elderly to their appointments. An ardent Notre Dame football fan, he enjoyed a friendly $1 bet with his Penn State graduate niece, a wager he proudly won last fall. Paul was consistently described as a true gentleman, always quick to express his gratitude for any kindness shown to him. His deep and abiding Catholic faith provided immense comfort and strength through the challenges of aging and in his final moments.
In his last decade, Paul cherished his visits from his niece Sue and his nephew Ed. During these visits, he loved leading group hikes up Black Mountain, and engaging in spirited games of Euchre and enjoying Manhattans with Sue’s husband, Glen. A big thank you to all of his neighbors who generously helped him along the way, and also to his caregivers, Sylvia and Mariam.
As per his wishes, a military funeral is scheduled for Friday June 13th at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City at 12:40pm. Uncle Paul had a soft spot for helping children in need. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SmileTrain at https://www.smiletrain.org/. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
