

Raymond Douglas Dennis, age 75, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 of complications from pneumonia. Raymond was born in Jackson, Mississippi to Marvin Dennis and Sammie Louise Rogers, but raised and cared for by Marvin and Mary Sue Dennis. He was born on December 14, 1948. He graduated from Gloster High School in Gloster, MS in 1966.
Raymond served in the US Army from November 10, 1969, until he retired on December 31, 1990 as Sergeant Major, E9 at White Sands Missile Range, NM. After his retirement from the US Army, he continued in the field of Meteorology with the Dept. of Commerce, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), Air Resources Laboratory in Las Vegas, and retired from Government Service in 2011. During his time in the Army, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in History from Utah State University.
After his retirement, he was active in his community and served on the Homeowners Association for several years. He enjoyed golf if his health would allow and made many lifelong friends. He also enjoyed reading and keeping up on the latest events, tracking the weather on his home weather station and rooting for his favorite team Ole Miss. He loved his family and would light up when seeing his grandchildren in person or through pictures and videos.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Marvin D. Dennis in 1994.
He is survived by his wife Kay Dennis of Las Vegas, NV, his daughter Casandra Dennis (Jason Hargis) of Las Vegas, NV, his grandson Zachary Carrillo of Mesa, AZ, and his granddaughter Mikayla Grant of Las Vegas, NV. Three stepsons, Robert Giffing of Austin, TX, Russell Giffing (Lynn) of Pueblo, CO, and Jeffrey Giffing (Joy) of Las Cruces, NM. Six step-grandchildren, Adam Martinez (Jacque) of Pueblo, CO, Jana Pike (Bret) of Pueblo, CO, Casey Giffing (Emily), and Jaynee Meyer (Koda) of Garden City, KS, Jagger and Jackson Giffing of Las Cruces, NM. Four step-great-grandchildren, Jade, Bristol, Axel, and Clayton. His mother Mary Sue Dennis of Jackson, MS, brothers Mackie Dennis (Rhonda), of Brandon, MS, Terry Dennis (Kathy) of Gallatin, TN, and Sister Susan Hinton (Paul), of Hattiesburg, MS. As well as many nieces and nephews.
His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. A committal service for Raymond will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 11:20AM at Southern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran’s Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005. A Reception/Celebration of Life will be held immediately after Raymond’s committal service at Shadow Hills Church, The Hills Summerlin, 7811 Vegas Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89128, from 2:00PM - 5:00PM.
