Bunny was born on October 14, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawai’i to Alexander and Lillian (née Oshiro) Keone. She grew up in Manoa Valley with her 3 brothers and her 2 sisters. Her father was a Fire Captain for Honolulu Fire Department and a welder and her mother worked as a restaurant manager at Flamingo on Kapiolani in Honolulu, Hawai’i. Bunny was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in 1979.
Hospitality was always Bunny’s strong suit, both personally and professionally, with her gift of personality. She started her career working on the SS Independence and the SS Constitution as a cocktail server as they operated as a cruise line circling the Hawaiian Islands. She would then work at the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki also a cocktail server.
Bunny’s journey eventually took her to Las Vegas where she would lay her roots. She moved to the ninth island in 1988 and continued her career in hospitality when she began working at the Gold Coast as a cocktail server, a career that would span almost three decades with many regular customers and a collection of very close friends. Bunny frequented the California Hotel where she met Paul, whom she would marry and have their only daughter, Alexis. While both went onto new relationships after a time, Bunny and Paul continued to co-parent Alexis until she was of age.
Alexis was the light of Bunny’s life and often referred to her as her “miracle baby”. She will always be remembered as a mother who cared greatly about Alexis’ education and fostered a strong independence in her daughter. She worked hard as a single mother to provide for Alexis as well as be able to spoil her when she came home with straight A’s on her report cards. Bunny would go above and beyond for Alexis as a mom and when Alexis reached adulthood, they would be the best of friends.
No one was quite the life of the party the way Bunny was; having the ability to make friends with complete strangers and being a social butterfly who could talk to anyone. She always had stories to tell and knew how to make a group of people laugh. Whenever there was someone in need of a friend or a mom, she would scoop them up to help. She would also extend her generosity to anyone in need, regardless of how long she knew them and with no questions asked. Bunny was always someone to lean against during tough times. Her big heart also made her a devout animal lover; she cared immensely about animals in need and always found ways to spoil her own animals with love.
Bunny had a plethora of hobbies. She loved sharing meals with friends and family, whether she prepared the meal herself or treated them to a nice restaurant. She was a fan of RV camping, sightseeing, and visiting cultural or historical sites. When she was at home, she would watch true crime TV and would watch any movie as long as it wasn’t scary. She enjoyed exercising her creativity when she could like making stained glass pieces and baking. Perhaps the one thing Bunny was known for was her love of football season as she often made weekends a big deal so she could watch the marathon of games.
After years of searching, Bunny met her soulmate after the two caught each other’s eyes when she worked at Gold Coast. Dan introduced her to a love she never knew and the two built a beautiful partnership filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. They created a life rich with happiness, adventures, and the simple pleasures of being together because as long as they were with one another, all was well.
To know Bunny was a gift in and of itself. As many people knew her, she faced the world head on and was a strong and resilient person because of it. Her spirit, her wit, the laughter she incited, and the joy she brought to those around her will forever be missed.
Bunny is preceded in death by her father, Alexander Henry Keone, her uncle Michael Keone, and her half-brother Alexander Delhart Keone. She leaves behind her mother, Lillian Keone; her only daughter, Alexis; her life partner, Daniel Hansberry and their dog, Jake; her siblings: Hilton “Butch”, Miles “JB” (Susan), Lynette “Sis” (Lou) Rego, April “AJ” (Brian) Kimura, and Alexander “Alika”; many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles; and countless friends from the Hale Koa and Gold Coast that were her chosen family.
Bunny made the decision to become an organ donor and her wishes came to fruition; the family would like to thank the Nevada Donor Network for not only assisting Bunny with her wishes, but for all of the support they extended to her family. Additionally, the family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and case managers in the ICU at Spring Valley Hospital for their compassionate care and accommodations.
For those who would like to honor Bunny, please make a donation to the Humane Society in her name so that her love of animals and her big heart continues giving the gift of Aloha to animals in need.
