Living and annoying each other since 1952 and still we’re going strong. Next month would have been 73 years of marriage.

Our many weekend camping trips. We rode dirt bikes, cooked outside, played cards and use siblings would fight over where to sleep inside the camper. 
Vacation trip to Idaho in an old cabin. I was 8 or 9 years old. I was walking across the bridge when dad yelled “Don’t move or look around”. The sound of his voice was one I hadn’t ever heard. There was a snake popping its head up in a knot hole by me. He was able to take care of the snake and I didn’t get bit. 
On the same trip we were roasting marshmallows in the brick fireplace, when a marshmallow fell onto my hand still on fire. Dad swooped me up ran to the kitchen sink where no water would come out (someone forgot to leave the water handle up). Then carried me to the creek outside. I didn’t have any burns or scares. 

He taught us kids to play card games. We would play for hours with his can of pennies.   The only rule was he got all his pennies back.

 I’ll always remember the song “The boy named Sue “ by Johnny Cash. You loved teasing me all the time by calling me in that  way. 

I’ll always love and miss you dad.

Richard was my uncle by marriage. When he was in a room, you knew it!  I remember him teasing (in a loving way) his children and laughing. He loved to visit and hear about our lives as he got older. He loved to play cards with all of his kids and grandchildren. I will miss his “Okey” accent saying “watch’u been up to?”  He genuinely wanted to hear about you, your kids, your sister….anything. Most of all, I loved the way he talked about Aunt Marilyn. EVERY time that I visited, he would tell me something wonderful that Aunt Marilyn did ❤️

I admired my parents relationship.  How they always took care of each other.  Mom taking care of dad and as they grew older dad helping mom.   Dad was always playful even after many years of marriage.  Once my dad asked me to buy him two of those paddles with the ball connected to them.   He was always asking for me to buy him different items.  I asked; “what are you going to do with that?” He replied “I am going to give it to mom, so she doesn’t have to get up to hit me when she is mad at me”   I laughed.  Didn’t buy that item!  
I appreciate them showing me to stand by your spouse when things get rough and to appreciate time together.  I will miss him more than words can say.

The mischievous grin on his face tells it all. Practical jokes and loveable banter were his go to style. Not everyone always appreciated your style of fun, but I definitely will miss it. My sister Suzanne asked me once when we were younger, how I ever dared to bring home a date to meet dad.  I told her that I treated it like a trial, if they couldn't appreciate dad then there was no way our relationship would work.  And finally a toast to you, Dad: 
Here's to a long life and a merry one (94+ years)
A  quick death and an easy one (died in his chair)
A pretty girl and an honest one (mom was the best thing for you)
A cold beer and another one (we shared many and each new beer will be to you)

Uncle Richard Thank You for Your support and Love after all these years. I remember when You and Family came to Utah and we were on a chair lift and on the way up there were squirrels on the ground beneath the lift. When we got to the top I started putting rocks in my pockets to throw at them on the way down but Dad seen me and made me empty my pockets. That's when You told me Leon ride down with me. So I did and since my Dad had me empty my pockets You had filled yours. We threw rocks all the way down but never hit a squirrel. Thank You Uncle Richard for Your Love and Memories. Will see You again Uncle Richard but hope not to soon. Love All the Headrick God Bless You All. Rest in Peace Uncle Richard and Thanks for the Memories!

Pop Pop AKA as “The Bull” was one of my favorite family members.  I remember meeting him for the first time when Ryan and I drove to Landers.  Grandma (who was cooking fried chicken and mashed potatoes for us) met us at the door and told us that Pop Pop was in the backyard.  We figured out real quick that Pop Pop was shooting squirrels because they were eating the food he had put out for the birds.  I’m pretty sure I lost some of my hearing that day as he decided to shoot when I was standing right next to him.  We always enjoyed visiting  Pop Pop.  He loved being ornery on purpose and absolutely loved to stir the pot and drive Grandma crazy!  Ha ha!  I have video of Grandma telling Pop Pop that “he was the biggest baby that God made”—their loving banter back and forth will never be forgotten.  Pop Pop made it regular practice to tell Ryan and I how proud he was of us and our girls and how much he loved us.  We certainly loved him and will miss his almost daily phone calls, emails, and jokes.  He called me “Sue Sue” and always made me feel like a daughter-not a granddaughter in-law.  Oh how we already miss him.❤️

I remember going to Maui with my parents and renting a jeep.  No windows, no top, just open to enjoy the wonderful weather.  We headed out sightseeing and it started to pour.  When we ran back to the jeep, my dad couldn’t find the key.  I remember him trying every key, even hotel keys.  Finally finding the key and traveling back with rain pouring, wind blowing and us looking like we had been swimming with our clothes on.  We couldn’t help but laugh.  My dad was always an adventure!

Hawaii was their favorite get away. They would stay at the same hotel each visit. The staff remembered them when they arrived, had an ocean view room and had dad’s drink ready.

Dad was ahead of the trend eating potato chips with a glass of wine. I thought it was crazy until I found gourmet chips that were paired with wines.  

This was while watching games shows every evening with mom. If you were visiting you would be watching with them.

Dad & Mom would hold hands and saying how much they loved each other every time you turned around.  Next month would have been their 73 th  wedding anniversary. What a love story they had. 
Thank you for showing me that a marriage has ups and downs, but it’s what you do with them to build a stronger relationship.

Dad always in his favorite chair and had to have his blanket. I must have gotten the blanket need from him.

I have many good memories of Uncle Richard.  I remember as a child being afraid to be at the house when he was sleeping.   You didn’t dare wake him or you would be in trouble!!  But although he was gruff he was funny.  While he was teaching you how to wipe down the kitchen table he was dead serious but then he could smile and  say “Melindy you’re alright”.  As I got older and became an adult I admired how he talked about Aunt Marilyn and how much he loved her.  When she would get mad at him and say “Richard!” he would laugh and tell you what a wonderful wife and mother she is.  He would tell you she put up with a lot dealing with him and he was lucky to have her.  I will miss hearing “Melindy, you’re alright!”

Dear Headrick Family- 
I am so sorry for your loss.  I enjoyed getting to know Uncle Richard better these last few years through  his emails and phone calls.  He was a very special man!
