
Robert J. Donald, age 80, of Las Vegas, passed away on February 14, 2015. He was born August 4, 1934 in Newark New Jersey. He was drafted into the US Army in 1953 during the Korean War and honorably discharged in 1955. He joined the Newark Police Department in 1961 and retired as a Lieutenant in 1986 after 25 years of service. He received numerous meritorious duty awards for actions taken, including the Newark Police Department’s highest award, the “Medal of Honor for his actions under fire. He began his service as a walking patrol officer, then motor patrol and night motorcycle squad. He was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Narcotic Bureau and finished his career as Lieutenant in the Tactical Force. After retiring, he and his wife Carole moved to Las Vegas. There he began a life of volunteering. He helped rebuild the Nellis Air Force Base Skeet, Trap and sporting Clays Complex and helped run the facility for many years. Skeet shooting was his passion and he was inducted into the Nevada State Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame in 2003. He also volunteered for many other causes and was known as a super volunteer. He and his wife were honored as Republicans of the Year in 2007. He was preceded in death by his brother Pierce and half-sister Lyda. Survivors include his wife of 30 years Carole, sons Robert (Maj) and Stephen and daughter Diane Donald along with five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:40 am, Monday, February 23, 2015 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.
