

SPC E-4 Ronald Edward Gaines was born January 28, 1989 in Handcock, Michigan to Corliss A. Dunn-Gaines and Ronald E. Gaines. He attended Northern High School in Flint, Michigan, where he also spent his entire childhood enjoying life and excelling at sports. Ronald later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2005, where he attended Cheyenne High School and graduated with the class of 2007.
Afterward Ronald joined the Nevada Army National Guard. He truly enjoyed being in the military and serving his country. Although he got along with everyone, his close follow soldiers were SFC Zell Johnson, SSG Chad Melanson, and SSG Steve Branson.
Specialist Ronald Gaines was a member of the first 221st Nevada Army National Guard and a veteran of Afghanistan Operation Enduring Freedom in Kumar Province. He served as a Heavy Weapons Gunner conducting security operations on dozens of missions and secured observation posts overseeing his fellow soldiers and Afghan forces. He was awarded the Combat Action Badge, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Army Commendation Medal. After returning home Ronald attended Anthem Institute where he was in the process of becoming a Surgical Technologist.
Ronald spent most of his free time exercising, playing sports, video games and listening to music. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Ronald leaves to cherish his memory daughter to be Lei’Anna Gaines, fiancé Nakira Williams, mother Corliss Gaines, father Ronald Gaines; brother Isaiah Gaines, step-father Allen Trice, niece Zoey Gaines, grandmothers E. Jannette Simpson, Cyneatha Joseph, Ollie T. Dunn, cousin Michael Dunn, god-father Robert Eason, other mother Kali Johnson. Aunts and Uncles: Greg and Pam Gaines of Davidson, Michigan; Carolyn and Melton Wright; Deborah Dunn and Kenneth Pugh; Shirlenia Rutherford all of Flint, Michigan; Kenneth Wyrick of Fulda, Minnesota, Madeline Carol Spence; Virgil and Cora Joseph; Darenell Joseph all of Texas and a host of other family members and friends. Ronald is now at peace with the grand-father he loved so much; Lawrence Edward Dunn.
