Rosa Marie Samuel, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, and friend. Rosa lived her 88 years with a heart full of faith, compassion, and devotion to her family.
Born on July 9, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois to Paul Watkins and Ruby Victoria Barrett, Rosa was raised in a family deeply rooted in music and faith. She was lovingly guided by her aunties, the world-renowned Barrett Sisters, whose voices lifted spirits across the globe. From them, Rosa inherited not only musical talent, but also a steadfast devotion to God. She carried that faith proudly throughout her life, never missing an opportunity to share the love of Christ and the importance of walking with the Lord.
Rosa was a woman of many gifts. She worked as both a registered nurse and a chef, dedicating her skills to serving others. Her passion for helping those in need extended far beyond her work — Rosa gave selflessly to her community, offering food, shelter, and comfort to anyone who needed it. She lived her faith through her actions, blessing others not just with words, but with care and generosity.
Family was Rosa’s greatest joy. She cherished every holiday, every birthday, and every gathering, making sure no one ever felt forgotten. She truly was the glue that held her family together. Her love was steady, thoughtful, and unwavering.
Rosa shared a beautiful 45-year love story with her husband, Howard E. Samuel. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, faith, and devotion until her final day on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Kindred Health Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada.
She is survived by her three sons and one deceased; Richard Smith Jr. (wife Jackie), Allen T. Smith (wife Sandra), Mark A. Smith (fiancé Melody) and Peter D. Smith (wife Regina.)
She was also the proud grandmother and guiding light to Marie A. Smith, whom she lovingly raised from birth.
Her grandchildren include: Stanley Styles, Cherie Styles, Dorothy Styles, Kwesi Mosley, Richard Smith Jr., Kandi Smith, Devin Smith, Lashanda Kincey, Sandra Harris, Marie A. Smith, Sarah Smith, Ezekiel Smith, Joshua Smith and Etta Marie Smith along with more than 50 great and great-grandchildren, each of whom was touched by her love.
Rosa is preceded in death by her beloved son Allen T. Smith Sr. and her grandson Allen T. Smith Jr.
Though our hearts ache at her passing, Rosa’s spirit will forever remain with us —in her extended family and friends, in every song sung, every meal shared, and every act of love we give to one another. Her legacy is one of faith, family, and kindness.
