Rose Kitzmiller was born on March 10,1936 at 62 Huron Street in Greenpoint (Brooklyn), New York to Veronica and Harry Hotz. She was the youngest of eight children in the Hotz family; Ivan (died shortly after birth), Michael, Mary, Anthony, Theodore, Andrew, and John. Rose passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026 at the age of 89 after a long and fierce battle with breast cancer that metastasized within her body. Sister Mary and all of her brothers predeceased Rose.
Rose is survived by four nieces; Elizabeth Boyes (daughter of Mary), Veronica Hotz, Carol Scott and Crystal Betterley (daughters of Anthony) and two nephews; Robert Hotz (son of Theodore) and William Hotz (son of John). A fourth niece, Joann Vita (daughter of Andrew), recently died also after battling cancer for many years.
Rose and her husband Oscar “Kitz” Kitzmiller, who also pre-deceased her, did not have any children of their own but loved the numerous children and grandchildren of her nieces and nephew, and enjoyed hearing of their many accomplishments and achievements. Our family and her Canyon Gate Las Vegas friends and family will miss her spirit, energy, feistiness, generosity and sense of humor. She will, undoubtedly, be missed at the tables and slots of Rampart and Red Rock Casinos where she enjoyed beating the odds. We would all hear of her successes at the blackjack tables and winnings at the slots (not so much when the house got the better of her)!
Armed with a High School Diploma, guts and a sharp mind, Rose worked in NYC for Revlon and A.G Becker & Company Investment Bankers as an administrative assistant to the financial officers. She also managed a field office for MSI Corp. in Albany, New York. When husband Kitz, a Navy Officer was transferred to Hawaii, she held the position of Vice President of Royal Hawaiian Perfumes and Credit/Purchasing Manager of Malia International. In the 1980’s she left Honolulu for California to be closer to sister Mary and her husband Sam and started a new chapter of her career in the insurance field as a “General Agent.” In 1992 Rose and Kitz returned to Oahu where she became the office manager of a chiropractic clinic. Three years later the couple returned to the mainland United States and relocated in Las Vegas where they lived out their lives at Canyon Gate where Rose took control of the family finances and diligently managed their investment portfolio, putting to use all the skills she honed over the years.
