Ruby Corwin

Ruby Louise Corwin, 74, a homemaker and 31-year resident of Nevada, was born Nov. 23, 1937 and passed away Sept. 15, 2012. Ruby was born in Orne, Tennessee, to Jewel King Holland and Elisha J. Holland. She graduated from Lynch High School in Lynch, Kentucky. She was married to James L. Corwin May 30, 1967, in Las Vegas, for 45 years. She moved from Anaheim, California to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1981 and then to Sun City Summerlin in 2001. She was a member of Sun City Women's Club and Travel Club. Ruby loved her mountain retreat at her cabin in Strawberry Point, Utah. She enjoyed hiking and feeding the deer and birds at her "Hummer Haven." Ruby was dedicated to children and especially her granddaughters. She worked as a small business office manager in Buena Park, California prior to moving to Las Vegas. She was a teacher's aid for both the Anaheim and Clark County School Districts. She also served as a school bus monitor and was a certified illiteracy tutor. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Loretta Rousch of Las Vegas and Lynn Cheron of Florence, KY. She is survived by her husband, James L. Corwin; son, Micheal (June) Mayer of Eatonville, WA.; daughters, Kathy Hampton of Wofford Heights, CA and Lisa (Loren) Hassinger of Las Vegas; brothers, Jim Holland of Lynch, KY, E.J. Holland of Totz, KY, Carl (Bo) Holland of Satellite Beach, FL and John Holland of Frankford, KY.; sisters, Peggy Leland of Henderson and Shelby Davis of London, KY; granddaughters, Rochelle Lantz of Las Vegas and Tammy Hampton of Wofford Heights.

A visitation will be held from 3 to7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27. Funeral services will be at noon on Friday, Sept. 28, both at Palm Mortuary-Cheyenne, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89129. Graveside services will follow at 1:30p.m. at Bunker Memory Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road, Las Vegas, NV 89129. Her family is grateful for the loving care and support she received from the staff at the Mountain View Hospital and Rehab Center and the Nathan Adelson Hospice. While flowers would be appreciated, we would also request any donations be made to either the Lou Ruvo Center For Brain Health or the Nathan Adelson Hospice, both in Las Vegas.
