Born on August 21, 1944, Stan lived a life full of service, curiosity, and laughter. He proudly served 30 years in the U.S. military, including time in the Vietnam War, and later dedicated 17 years to the State of Oregon Emergency Management. His commitment to helping others and staying calm in the face of chaos defined much of his career and character.
On Christmas Eve of 1985, Stan married the love of his life, Judith Kay Ross, in Salem, Oregon. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and endless adventures. They would have celebrated 40 wonderful years of marriage this December.
After retiring in 2015, Stan and Judi moved to Las Vegas, where they soaked up the sunshine and enjoyed the simple joys of life — from sharing jokes over an evening cocktail to tending his beloved stamp collection.
Stan was known for his quick wit, endless curiosity, and his ability to make anyone laugh. He never stopped learning, questioning, or sharing stories that made life a little brighter for everyone around him.
He is preceded in death by his son Christopher Ross, daughter Cha-Cha Gillett, sister Holly, and his parents. He is survived by his wife Judi Ross, sister Wendy Graves, sons Robert Heller and David Buyserie, daughter Joni Heller, as well as many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Stan will be deeply missed but remembered always — for his humor, his heart, and his lifelong passion for discovery (and a good stamp).
Military Honors service to be held January 16, 2026 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR with a reception to follow at Hilton Garden Inn in Clackamas, OR.
