Terry was born in Washington, D.C. on February 24, 1957, to William Leonard Covington and Gloria Mercedes Covington. In 1958, his family moved to Marina del Rey, California where he was raised until the age of sixteen. Terry then moved to Las Vegas where he remained until his passing.
Terry worked for the United States Department of Energy at the Tonopah Test Range in Nye County for eight years. During his time there, he was a Certified Hazardous Waste Materials Transporter.
Terry joined the Teamsters Union in 1988 and has been a member for over thirty years. As a Convention Journeyman, Terry learned about various trades and industries using his craft skills to create the perfect convention space. He loved to work and more than that, he loved spending time with his brothers. Even after he retired, Terry continued to work various Conventions a few months each year. He could often be overhead telling stories about something funny one of his brothers did that day at work. Terry was thankful for the friendships he developed while he was a Teamster.
Terry was thirty-five years sober and that was an accomplishment he shared with pride. He was active in Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and the entire recovery community. For many years, Terry was a volunteer substance abuse counselor at the Economic Opportunity Board Treatment Center. Terry also served as a sponsor to many newer members. As he continued to work on his sobriety and well-being, he made sure he was available to help others.
Terry was known for his quick-wit, sense of humor and service to others especially his loved ones. Terry loved to eat delicious food, listen to all types of music and enjoy the company of his family. He especially adored his grandchildren and made spending time with them a priority, especially in the last several years. No matter what his grandchildren asked for, he did everything he could to give them what they wanted. He reveled in their smiles and laughter which brought him great joy. Another great source of joy for Terry was his friends who he loved very much. He could often be found enjoying barbequing with them, creating and building things with them, or fixing anything that needed it with them, all while listening to good music.
He leaves his son, Terry Covington, Jr. and his wife Elle; son Terrence S. Covington, Jr. and his wife Alicyn; son William Leonard Covington, III and his wife Monica; son Marcus S.
