On March 21st, 1939, WJ and Myrtle O'Leary gave birth to their fifth child: a boy they named Timothy Patrick O'Leary. Tim was born in Cherryvale Kansas, and was number five of six children; he had two older brothers, John and Jim, two older sisters, Mary and Ellen, and a younger brother, Danny.
As a boy, growing up in Kansas and Missouri, Tim played baseball and basketball in school. This was the beginning of a lifelong love of sports. He also collected comic books and baseball cards. Tim attended High School in Sikeston Missouri, where he played baseball, and graduated in 1955. Tim also did a stint in the Air Force.
Tim studied Sociology and History for a time at San Jose City College in California. He had a strong interest in History and was well informed on historical events. He was the go-to-man on historical information.
On August 27th, 1960, Tim married the woman who would become the mother of his children, Betty Sue Crowell. Tim and Betty had two children of their own, Tara Susan and Timothy Patrick II, and an adopted son, Myles.
Tim was active in the lives of his children, especially his son, coaching his baseball and football teams for some ten years; he also worked with Paradise Valley Little League and Pop Warner ball clubs.
Though Tim did not attend church regularly, he was Catholic and tried to live his life along the lines of his Catholic teachings and also attended Catholic school.
As an occupation, Tim worked Road Construction for ten years and managed a drug store for about ten years, later, living in Las Vegas, he worked in the Casino industry for more than twenty years.. He retired in 1998 due to health reasons.
In his later life, Tim had five grandchildren: Mare7, Nicholas, Nicole, O'Neil, and McKinzie.
Tim was a gentle and modest man who had simple values and dreams. He was sensitive to the needs of others and did not like conflict though he knew conflict was a natural part of life. He had a quick and sharp wit and was a constant source of wisdom and advise. Tim loved his family and had many friends: like Wayne King, Ray Estell,and Joseph Guffey a few of his childhood friends, David Page, Harry Blanton, and Bob Jines, to name just a few. He was a huge sports enthusiast who loved to watch football, baseball, and college basketball. He also enjoyed playing golf, casino video games, and taking trips to Del Mar to play the horses. In the last years of his life, Tim spent a lot of time with his children and grandchildren, who were of the utmost importance in his life. His grandkids nickname for him was "Pops".
In 1997, Tim was diagnosed with Leukemia. He put up a long, brave fight for thirteen years, before he passed away on Friday, April 16, 2010.
Tim is survived by his wife, Betty, his brothers, Jim and Danny, his sister, Mary, his children, Tara, Timmy and Myles, and his grandchildren, Mare', Nicholas, Nicole, O'Neal, and McKinzie.
Services for Tim will be held at St. Joseph Husband of Mary and he will be laid to rest at Veteran's National Cemetery in Boulder City
