Zena Darnella Berry, aged 59, transitioned from this life on March 22nd, 2024, at Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. She was embraced by the love of her family and friends who remained by her side, offering comfort and solace during her final hours. Zena entered the world on January 2, 1965, to the late Elizabeth Torres-Berry and David Harold Berry. She shared a special bond with her twin brother, Donald Harold Berry. She was also a beloved younger sister to David Angelo Berry. From her earliest days, Zena's warmth, kindness, and enduring beauty shone brightly, defining her character and leaving an indelible mark on those around her.
Throughout her life, she maintained a lifelong bond with Beverly Wright, who has been a maternal figure to her since childhood. Even into her late adult years, she would continue to seek advice and insight from her trusted confidant. At eighteen, Zena married Clarence Pleasant Outen on September 29th, 1983. They relocated to Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan, from 1983 to 1988. Zena's journey into motherhood began with the birth of her first daughter, Crystal Camille Outen, whom she fondly referred to as her "First Love." Two years later, her second daughter, Candice Dawnetta Outen, her "Candy Girl", was born. After spending five years in Japan, Zena and Clarence returned to the United States and eventually settled in Las Vegas, NV where Zena gave birth to two more children, Celeste Nicole Outen, her “Baby Girl”, and her only son Kevin Allen Outen, whom she admired and respected greatly. After 13 years, she would divorce and start a new chapter in her life. Zena was a proud mother, who even through her struggles remained loving and supportive of her children. Her children recall her delicious banana pudding, smothered chicken and rice, and BLT’s that she would make with joy.
Zena built a fulfilling life for herself as she began working at Mandalay Bay. She was a dedicated individual and remained with the company for many years. Her co-workers describe her as trustworthy, empathetic, and insightful. She provided a supportive presence, offering comfort and encouragement when needed. Zena enjoyed live concerts that she often attended with her friend of 15 years, Alex Herrera. She loved dancing, keeping a spotless and clean home, and having an extensive perfume collection. She had a melodic and gentle voice that would bring comfort and peace to anyone who had the privilege of speaking with her. Her infectious laugh would accomplish the same. Zena was a Prince fan to the core. She admired his artistry and connected with his story and adversity. She had a profound affinity for the color purple, which resonated deeply with her soul. Its rich hues and regal allure seemed to mirror her own vibrant spirit and unwavering elegance. Zena is survived by her four children as well as her daughter-in-law Kylee Vanessa Outen and son-in-law Terrence ‘Putt’ McGee. Additionally, she is survived by her grandchildren: Cameron Isiah Outen, Ever Michael Outen, Dominic Ra’Vone McGee, Covey James Outen, Noa Leone Outen, and Diamond Camille McGee, along with nieces Jasmine Pryor and Alicia Quintana, Candace Zena Berry, nephew Ramon Grant, and her brother Angelo Berry, half-siblings Tracy Berry-Grider, Trina Berry, and David Berry, and a host of other relatives and friends. Zena was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, tia, and cherished friend. She will be greatly missed by many and will never be forgotten as she leaves behind a legacy of beautiful memories.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, May 3rd, 2024, at 4 PM, to be held at Palm Northwest Cemetery.
