
Atlanta, GA – Homer Herman “Jack” Jackson, 68, died peacefully in his sleep Sunday, January 10, 2016, at the Brookdale Retirement Center in Atlanta. Mr. Jackson was born on November 27, 1947, to Rosie Lee (Ma Ruth) Johnson and Buford Jackson, Sr. Upon the separation of his parents, he was raised by his grandparents William and Nonie Johnson. He leaves behind his two children, Jeana Lachelle and Jarvis Jackson, from his marriage to Jeanette Jackson of 40 years; four brothers; five living sisters; 2 living aunts & 2 living uncles; two grandchildren; and many, many close friends.
Born and raised in Sandersville, GA, Mr. Jackson’s early education was at the Royal Jr. High School and T. J. Elder high school, where he graduated in 1965. After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force where he served 29 years, retiring as a Chief Master Sargent. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in human resources from St. Leo College in Jacksonville, Florida, while serving in the Armed Forces. Mr. Jackson had military assignments all around the world, but his most treasured position was as the Director of Tops in Blue and USAFE, performing in front of hundreds of thousands of military personnel and their families, presenting nightly at locations throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Central America, Asia, and the Pacific. Mr. Jackson was a musical prodigy; he was a very versatile and talented performer. He started playing saxophone and piano at age eleven, began singing soon after, and learned to play several instruments independently. In his lifetime, he produced and recorded several CDs.
Although very ill in his later years, Mr. Jackson leaves behind a legacy of love, happiness, and friendship. He was a family man who loved and cared for everyone he encountered with an open, loving, and giving heart. He is having two services – one in the Atlanta Metro area and one in his hometown, Sandersville, GA.
