
Born on September 25, 1939, in La Plata, Maryland, she was the beloved daughter of the late Samuel and Jane McCarthy. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Wayne McCarthy.
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Jerry E. Dedman; her nephew, Gary McCarthy; and her great-nephews, all of whom she cherished deeply.
After graduating from high school, Barbara began her career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where she worked for 12 years. She later transitioned into private industry, including her time with Textron, where she worked in the division that built helicopters. Throughout her life, she remained active in her community and professional circles, serving as president of two aviation clubs, including the Top Side Aviation Club. She also served as president of the ladies’ club at her church in La Plata, Maryland.
A woman of faith, Barbara was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach.
In 1994, Barbara and Jerry moved to the Carolina coast, where she embraced the beauty and tranquility of coastal life.
She will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her leadership in her community, and the warmth she brought to those who knew her.
