Barbara G. Kirkland

Barbara Genevieve Kirkland passed away on January 18, 2026. Barbara was born in Brooklyn, New York, and resided in Valley Stream, Long Island, until 1972. She attended the Flushing Hospital School of Nursing and earned her RN degree in 1960. She practiced her professional skills in both New York and California for over 40 years.

Barbara married John Kirkland in 1975, and they enjoyed living in Orange County, California, until moving to Longs, South Carolina, in 2006. All who knew Barbara saw her as an endearing and caring person, always thinking of others first. She will be missed for her kindness, generosity, and quick wit. She faced the final month of her life with courage and dignity and remained graceful until God called her home.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Genevieve and Alfred Worthe, and her sisters, Jane Tirollo and Regina Brooks.

She is survived by her brother, Jeff Worthe of Tustin, California; her sister-in-law, Joan Freislich; and nephews in South Africa.

Barbara will be greatly missed by her many friends at Long Bay and in California and New York, especially her “rent-a-kids.”

There will be a private celebration of life.
