Charles Larry McCarn

Born in Belmont on July 21st, 1936, he was the third child of George and Ruby McCarn.

After graduating from High School, Larry enlisted in the USAF and served 28 years before retiring in 1982 as a Chief Master Sergeant.

Afterwards, he would work as an instructor for the FAA and USAF teaching young men and women to become professional air traffic controllers.

In 1958, he married his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 63 years, the former Frances Hamilton of Belmont, N.C., and together they raised two sons, James Michael and Patrick Lee.

Larry taught his boys the importance of hard work, compassion and loyalty.

In his spare time, Larry was an avid golfer, and worked in his large backyard garden of vegetables.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, mother and his step-father LeRoy Featherstone. His sister Janet and brothers Robert, Terry and Don. His beloved wife Frances passed in 2021, He is survived by his sons, James and Patrick and his wife Candie; grandchildren, Ryan Shea, Tyler, Caleigh, Jarrett and Taylor (TJ) McCarn.

His gentle spirit and enduring love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
