Daniel Scott Willoughby

Daniel (Dan) Scott Willoughby, 72, of Lutz, Fl. passed away on May 23, 2023. He was surrounded by family and a special friend, with many, many more caring for him from afar. He went by a few names; Danny, Mister, Digger Dan, Papa, and Dan-Dan the Funny Man. Dan was born on July 3, 1950 in Huntington, West Virginia to parents Walter and TeNeil (Johnson) Willoughby.

Walt's Air Force career moved the family to Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and finally to Florida in 1963. Dan married Sandye Norman on December 19, 1969. Dan enlisted in the Army and served in Vietnam from January-November 1970. Dan was extremely patriotic and was immensely proud to have served his country. Dan was a heavy equipment operator in the army and continued this after he was discharged. He was a precise and sought after pool digger. Dan and Sandye eventually opened a pool care business together. Dan was a hard worker and even after retirement he occasionally worked at pool care or setting up trade shows with his buddies. Dan was widowed in May 2015 after 46 years of marriage to Sandye. Dan met widowed Debra Kelly (Schmidt) on April 30, 2016. He got down on one knee and proposed at Stormy Hill Harley Davidson on April 30, 2017. Dan and Debbie (D&D) were married on April 30, 2018. Dan and Debbie spent two summers at Paradise Valley campground in Iowa where many friends and family enjoyed his company. Dan was a genuine southern gentleman, outgoing and always with a smile on his face. He never met a stranger. Everyone that met him truly loved him. Dan enjoyed riding on his Harley Davidson motorcycles and many amazing trips were enjoyed with Debbie.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and TeNeil Willoughby, his sister Susan, and first wife Sandye. Survivors include his wife of 5 years, Debbie Kelly, step-daughters Erin (James) Officer, Erica Kelly, and Elise (Alex) Becker, step-grandson Teddy Becker, his brother Carl (Debbie) Willoughby, two nephews, and 4 great nieces.

Dan will be missed by many and will remain forever in our hearts.

A memorial service will be held Friday June 30, 2023 at 2:30 pm at Bushnell Military Cemetery 6502 S.W. 102nd Avenue Bushnell, FL 33513
