Edward “Eddie” Sawyer passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024 with his mother by his side, at McLeod Seacoast Hospital. He was 56 years old. Eddie was born in Spartanburg, SC and moved to Myrtle Beach at a young age. Throughout his life, Edward “Eddie” Sawyer was known as BlackCatEvelyn, Orca, son, brother, but most importantly, his most treasured name was “Dad”.
Eddie was a 1987 graduate of Myrtle Beach High School. He was an avid surfer in high school and was the founder of the Myrtle Beach High School Surf Club. He attended Trident Technical College, Gilford Technical College and Coastal Carolina.
An avid sailor, Eddie was the proud captain of his sailboat (Orca) winning many regattas throughout his life. He studied to be an airplane pilot, earning his avionics degree with a 4.0 and enjoyed riding his motorcycle.
Eddie was “over the moon” proud of his daughter, Madison, whom he raised himself as a single father. Family was very important to him, and his relationship with his sister, Donna, was so special. They were not only siblings but were very close friends. With his phone almost always in hand, he would often reach out to his daughter, sister, and mother just to say hello and let them know how much he loved them. Eddie was a friend to all who knew him and if he knew you, he loved you. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his mother,
Lynn Sawyer-Webster of North Myrtle Beach, Eddie is survived by his daughter Madison Sawyer(her
fiancé, Cory) and 7 year old son Rolland of Lincolnton, NC; sister, Donna Drennen (Danny) of Greenwood, SC; nephews, Sean and Steven Rogers both of Charlotte, NC
