Evelyn G. Cassel passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at home with her devoted husband of 57 years by her side ni North Myrtle Beach., SC. She was 87 years old. Born on May 1, 1937, in Newbery County, SC, Eve was the daughter of the late Simon .P and Elizabeth Kitchens Motes. Eve was the youngest of 6 children in a close-knit family.
Evelyn was raised in Joanna, SC and was a graduate of Clinton High School where she excelled at basketball. Following high school, Eve moved to Columbia, SC. It was there that she met her husband Douglas A. Cassel. They wed on August 1, 1967. Eve was a role model and mentor for ladies getting a "leg up" in the industry. She led in sales as a Million Dollar Producer and Top Producer for numerous years before retiring in 2003.
Eve was first and foremost a woman of family. Time spent with her family and traveling with her husband was something Eve truly enjoyed. Whether traveling with Doug, and with Tammy (Brian) on nearly 90 cruises, Eve was happy with life's simple pleasures: sunshine, sand between her toes, and shopping.
In 1999, following the passing of her sister, Betty Mae Attaway, their family grew when Tammy Fossell, Debra Lancto, and Michael Attaway became an "adopted in love" part of the family.
Eve is survived by her loving husband, Doug, of 57 years, her daughter, Melody Lane Lightner; her "adopted" daughter, Tammy Fossel (Brian); grandchildren, David, Samuel, and Jonathan Lightner; and great-grandchildren, Avery, Cole, Jack, Naomi and Joanna Lightner.
