Gary graduated NMB High School. During his senior year he met his wife and after they married in 1987 they moved to Spartanburg, SC where he attended USC Spartanburg and graduated with a BS in 1992. A few months after he graduated his first son, Justin, was born. When Justin was a few months old his little family moved back to the beach and then in 1994 his second son, Jordan, came along. Being a father to his two sons was his greatest joy in life. Some of the best stories that came out of his life always came from the things he did with his boys. He coached and cheered them on when they raced motocross and no matter where they placed he was always so of proud them. His favorite past time was doing anything with his boys and his brother, Terry. Whether it was riding the river or riding 4 wheelers in the mud somewhere or just spending time at the river property, he owned with his sons and brother, building a huge bon fire even when it was 98 degrees outside. Everything they all did together always included a lot of shenanigans and laughter.
Throughout his business life, he built a million-dollar roofing business where he and his brother worked alongside each other. During his roofing years, he also opened a motorcycle shop and brought his dad in to run the shop and his mother worked with his wife, Laurie, in the roofing office. Whatever business venture he was in it always had to include his family. His passion was to build houses so he got his Residential Homebuilders license and eventually became a General Contractor. He designed and built several houses before the economy crashed. Soon after that, he got his Mechanical license and started an HVAC company but his passion was more in the construction field. He always dreamed of building a business so he could work alongside his sons and eventually turn the reins over to them. The last couple of years he was living that dream as he and his boys were building their construction business together and they will continue to carry out his dream.
Gary was not only a husband, father, and brother, he was the best friend to us all. His friends were not just friends, they were extended family. He will be in our hearts forever and always, until we meet again.
A memorial service will be held in honor of Gary at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Bible Fellowship Baptist Church, 462 Highway 57 South, Little River, SC 29566. Reverend Michael Stewart will officiate.
